Okay so. I found a good size lot of Windstones on Craigslist, but it was nowhere near me… So when the seller said they were available, I asked if they could ship. I suggested EMT because it’s non-refundable, as far as I know, so a lot of people are more comfortable with that.

      I got this in response:

How do you people sleep at night ripping hard working honest people off. Glad I’m not you on judgment day, enjoy it why you can; if you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I laughed a little. But I actually feel kinda bad, I hope I haven’t seriously ruined their faith in humanity or something.

Anyone had anything like this happen? I don’t think I’d feel comfortable making the transaction with them regardless anymore, but I’m wondering how I could at least make them feel better.

If someone reacted that strongly to you suggesting a way you’d be comfortable paying…you don’t need to spend a lot of time worrying about hurting their feelings. You didn’t ask for anything unreasonable, and that response is really over the top. Just shrug it off, and be glad you didn’t lose any money!

I don’t understand their reply to you?! You asked about EMT shipping, which I am guessing your were planning to cover…:

Edit – Maybe I am missing reading things, EMT is a form of shipping right?!

No, it is a method of payment that goes directly between banks. It’s really easy and since it is instant (no middle-man) it is non-refundable. I find this sets a lot of people at ease. I guess they hadn’t heard of it either!

But yeah, I said I was planning to cover shipping also, lol.

I think I don’t quite understand their response. Are they located in the US? EMS (not EMT) shipping is not something you can get in the US as far as I am aware. I get EMS shipping on my Asian BJDs shipped from overseas, but I’ve never found it to be an option shipping from the US. USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL are the options, with USPS having the least fees for the recipient if shipping overseas. I wonder if maybe the seller misunderstood what you were asking, not being familiar with EMS shipping? Perhaps they misunderstood what you wrote to them. Craigslist is full of scammers, so it’s not out of the realm for someone to suspect that if someone asks for something they aren’t familiar with in the way of payment or shipping.

I understand being cautious but that really threw me for a loop, haha.

Ha, well THAT was an overreaction. I’m not going to lie, it’s kind of funny they flew off the handle over a simple question. Judgment Day! LOL! What happened to, “do unto others”. Pot calling the kettle black, eh? Sounds like you don’t need to deal with them if they’re going to act like that.

Eek yeah, I decided not to mention the hypocrisy.

I wrote back and tried to explain the EMT thing and how it’s non-refundable, so I’m actually more likely to get ripped off than they are…! But I kept the email short, I didn’t want to make them more angry.

It’s funny and a little sad, you tend to figure people like this exist mostly in movies, haha.

Wow!! I always work under the policy that it never hurts to ask once, but I’ve never gotten a violent response like that. I’ve had to send rude messages to people who won’t stop asking, even when I’ve told them no several times(but that was after several polite messages that they ignored)

I have a feeling you got someone who isn’t entirely comfortable with the internet and just immediately assumes that anyone trying to ask for something they don’t understand is trying to con them. Just move on and be glad they didn’t agree. They sound like the type who would have made the entire transaction very unpleasant for you.

Ah, I understand and I still don’t get why thew flew off the handle?! Maybe, their bank charges an arm and a leg if they use such a service?

I’ve never heard of EMT bank transfers, so I googled it. Email Money Transfers, something done in Canada. Is that correct?

I don’t think you have any need to try and make them feel better. It sounds as though you sent a polite query and got a very rude reply. In my experience, people who describes themselves as “honest” either aren’t or, if they are honest, are very difficult to work with because they assume everyone else is dishonest. 🙁 Simply walking away from this transaction may be the smart thing to do.

I agree with Etruscan, I wouldn’t try to purchase anything from this seller even if it is tempting. You may be in for even more, or worse, ‘misunderstandings’ with them.
Frankly, I personally don’t trust using Craig’s List, especially with some of the Cons & robberies I’ve heard about.
Anyway, you shouldn’t feel bad. You can’t control their reactions or attitude, only yours.

Yep, that’s it! It is free and there is no middleman fee, since it is just between the banks. The only downside for the buyer is that it is non-refundable.

My hubby uses it all the time, and I have a couple times, but I didn’t realize it might be Canadian-only. I should probably find out.

Should I post the ad, so people know who to watch out for..? I mean, you could take your chances too. But maybe as a heads up for not asking them about shipping or anything.
