The folks who do all that research gotta make a living, too 😉 It costs alot of money and time to research geneology.
Good luck and I hope the websites help. No chance you can get your parents help? Time heals all wounds.
Well if you are having SOMEONE else do it for you then yes pay but I am talking about doing it yourself.

Just confirming that Cherokee were mainly in Tennessee. My grandpa is from Tennessee and he’s primarily Cherokee. Maybe we’re related! 😉
My grandfathers last name is Jarvis. 😉

http://www.familysearch.org/January 22, 2008 at 2:47 am #658322Cool! And thanks for the help, I’ve been using alot of the sites you guys have recommended. The family I’m researching is in Kentucky, but in clinton county, which is at the tennessee border. I’ve found that my grandmother never married my grandfather, although they had five kids. His last name was a lie…he took her last name…now I’m trying to figure how to find out stuff not even knowing the last name. I found the birth and death record of my grandma, her last name really was riddle. Geez, the stuff you find out. 🙄

January 22, 2008 at 3:37 am #658326Here’s another thought..
You could send for your mother’s birth record. It would provide information about her parents like their current residence, occupation at the time. If you know your grandparents’ birth dates and places, you could send for their birth records.
And if you run into road blocks in searching the three that you mentioned, then try researching your mother’s siblings, your grandmother’s siblings (if any), and your grandfather’s siblings (if any).
If you can’t talk to your aunts and uncles, you might try finding anyone that might have been neighbors with your grandparents. If they are no longer around, try their children or grandchildren.
Family research is like a big puzzle with little pieces that lead to more pieces. 🙂
Also,
If you search on Cyndi’s List for Cherokee, you’ll find several email lists that you can join to talk to others doing cherokee lineage research.January 22, 2008 at 6:30 am #658327If they are unregistered (undocumented) you may be in for some real fun!! At least if they’re Cherokee you may be able to find their tribes and talk to elders who may be able to help. My family has this enigma in our past, however Beothuk have been officially declared dead as a race since 1829, so umm yeah gong to my tribal elders is a little hard 😯 (or at least a little less believable to other people)
January 22, 2008 at 8:20 am #658328The best place to go for that kind of information is the Mormon Library of records. I can’t remember where it is off the top of my head. Also you might want to check land grant history. Many Natives were given plots of land in reservations as part of many of the deals between the tribes and the us government.
I would help but I am just to tired to get out of bed today~
