I’ve been looking forever for a good buckskin colored paint. I know a lot of you are model horse painters… Can someone point me in the right direction? Good quality paint is important.
TIA!May 4, 2007 at 3:51 am #570431I read your headline and thought you meant a paint horse in buckskin. π Does that even work?

yeah there are several buckskin colored horses registered as paint horses because they were denied a quaterhorse registration because of too much white…
hehe…

No, I think Phoenix is talking about a paint color ^^;
BTW, is that one of those dragon puppets for your icon? I have three! π
Phoenix, I use Dick blick for paint… maybe you can find what you’re looking for there?

May 4, 2007 at 5:12 am #570436Well, the paints I use have a good color for it, it’s “leather brown” and is the main color on this guy: http://bladespark.topcities.com/brownkirin6.jpg
It’s not exactly cheap though. I buy it online here: http://www.reapermini.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=2436&cat=0&page=1
It’s a miniature gaming paint, so if you have a local gaming store that carries minis, they’ll probably have it. I seriously swear by the stuff though, it’s the best paint I’ve ever painted with. At least for painting statues and things of that nature, I don’t like it on canvas at all.
May 4, 2007 at 9:19 am #570437Just get a tube of yellow ochre acrylic from Daler-Rowney brand.
Pick up some acrylic thinner, and wha la, buckskin colored paint. If you want it to be lighter, mix in white. you can thin with water too, but I’ve found the thinner specifically for acrylics works really nicely.
I’ve been using this brand for years, it’s cheap but good quality.
hope that helps.
