Looks like we’re all waiting for pics of the PYOs.
February 12, 2008 at 8:07 am #664008I feel that I have to put my .02 in here as well, I don’t know maybe the reason her family placed these in the Antique shop was because they felt that they would have the best chance possible of finding prober homes, i mean they could have sold them at a flea market/garage sale/ or even a “Junk” store(Aka Pawn shop). They may have kept potentially even more than half the collection, and DM how much trouble is it for you to arrange your collection of Emp’s? Imagine everyone picking out their fav 5-10 pieces, maybe even the really old Animal collection and then trying to keep it fair, because they had never realized that Grandma had so many. Also maybe she had placed pics with the ones she’d wanted given to specific people, again in order to try and prevent fighting, and that the little Pinkie was supposed to go to the baby in the pic, but unfortunately accidentally got put into the pieces that just couldn’t be rehomed among family, and they didn’t realize it.
Aetheria, in spite of your spacing issues, I urge you to think very carefully before you sell, even though I know that there’s a guarantee of some pieces that I’d like as well. Maybe even ask the store clerk if she could be your go between to find out about them, and mention hat you think you may have found a piece that was meant for someone, that they didn’t get. I know a lot of times at least the Antique stores usually will help, because the pieces were placed there with thought in mind, especially in this day and age of e-bay. Also out of curiosity’s sake, have you found #1?
Here’s to finding out she was friend and family in heart and soul if not neccisarily in life.
February 12, 2008 at 8:16 am #664009WOW! I just got home a few minutes ago and saw this! I would love to get my hands on some of these pieces but I don’t know if I would feel right. They need to go to good homes though and they need to be treated as the original owner treated them and I think anyone here would do that! I hope we can find out who this is. It tears me up to see pieces that meant so much to someone be discarded by family after they passed. And I don’t only mean Windstones, I mean anything that was important. I couldn’t get rid of something that was that important to my family member. 🙁
February 12, 2008 at 10:47 am #664010The whole thing is very sad. I suppose it’s possible that she or he didn’t have much family and all the stuff in the house was auctined off after their passing. In either case it’s very tragic. I’m sure it would do the owners heart good that her collection found her way back to the very forum she may have frequented and that her collection will be loved once more by people who really appreciate them.

Maybe they did keep a few for sentimental value but didn’t have the space (or the interest)for all the pieces. We need to have some sensitivity for the family too. Disposing of a loved one’s belongings is never easy. They might be very upset by some of the speculation here.
February 12, 2008 at 1:24 pm #664012I sent my PM loooong before it got to this point. When there was only one reply to her original post I believe. I’m not trying to “scavenge” anything. And I’ll be honest, I offered full going price if she has the pieces I’m looking for and is willing to part with them. What’s wrong with offering a loving home and a fair price? She DID ask for PMs.. This was before we had any idea of the scope of this.
I do hope we find out who this was. If nothing else just so we can light a candle in her memory and tell her she’s missed. In this day and age it’s not hard to track people, especially if you can get a foot in the door.
The tragedy of all this has made me realize that I need to add my collection into my will, as I’m sure it has many others. So something good has come of it. My skin crawled when I read the part about the .10 at a yard sale, seriously.
Take your time, Aetheria. There’s no rush and I hope no one is pressuring you.

February 12, 2008 at 2:17 pm #664014so sad. I know it has to be hard to be the one going through those boxes.

I guess I should be careful when I say curlie. Some of them are actually coiled, and a couple of them are mothers with eggs. And they’re all numbered like the others Lizzo and I pulled out.
My fiance flipped when he got home from work. The anger has subsided though I think and now he really just wants to know who all these dragons belonged to.
We’re still going to hold onto the Pyo’s, and probably the little pinkie with the photo. I don’t think it would be right to sell them. =/
Lizzie is going to see what she can do about a camera. She’s going to check her apartment while I go through the next two boxes we went through. I’ll have updates again soon.
And I’m very sorry for the lack of replies to my private messages. I’m currently sitting on 60 of them, and I will do my best to answer them all.
I just need to get through the boxes first. ><
I am looking for a white curlie if you have one.
Thanks
I agree with some other posts. If you can’t find the family there is nothing wrong with rehoming them. I posted my request for the curlie here instead of pming you because I didn’t want to flood your pm box. People die and its sad, but I spend a lot of time working with animals who’ve been abandoned or left behind and we look to rehome them in suitable new homes because their old home is gone. Perhaps the universe was looking out for you by providing you this opportunity to pay for college and give others pieces they’ve only dreamed of. Don’t think of it as scavenging. you have been given a task, either find their family or find them new families who will love them.Looking for Blue Fawn Baby Kirin
Sanguine Oriental Test Paints, kinglet
Sun Dragon Koi #3February 12, 2008 at 4:51 pm #664016Oh wow! That is so sad. 🙁 I don’t think we’ll ever know just who they did belong to but, at least they’ve found their way to a caring collector. 🙂

Yes. #1 & #2 were the Brown and Old Green emperors.
February 12, 2008 at 5:06 pm #664018This is very sad. It’s a heck of a find but still sad. This person obviously loved her dragons. I’m sure it must be hard for you to have to go through all those boxes…and finding ones that have messages on them? wow. Stay strong, hold the tears back if you can. I’d help you out if I didn’t live so far away.
My most wanted list: Peacock kitty wizard, carnelian mouse wizard, copper patina frog wizard, autumn leaf poads, pumpkin spice kitties

Well I wouldn’t think he would be too upset. I mean, we’re talking thousands of dollars! What a great find.
I too am really interested to see the PYO pieces. And trying to find who the pink curlie was bought for is a great idea. Otherwise… Sell the pieces you don’t want. Someone will cherish them! Though I’m thinking Ebay would be the easiest way to sell this many pieces. PM or Email will get soooo confusing!
I think the biggest clue to who this person is, is to post pics of the PYOs.February 12, 2008 at 5:39 pm #664020Snapdragon wrote:Stop sending her PM’s you guys.
All you are doing is pushing messages she hasn’t read out of her box and replacing them with yours. You’re accomplishing nothing.
Someone we could know kicked the bucket and everyone is just interested in scavenging what remains of her collection.
I think that’s a really unfair thing to say, considering that it’s only later on in the thread that this speculation came up that it was a forum member. Sometimes people just respond to the OP in a thread and then read the rest and I’m sure now a lot of people have realized their mistake. And just because people are interested in parts of the collection doesn’t mean they aren’t concerned with the thought of someone passing away, that’s an unproven assumption on your part. How strange to scold people for expressing interest in a Windstone/Windstones posted about in the Flea Market sub-forum.
I think you could have just let people know they had filled up her inbox without the lecture. And really, you could have let us know without the attitude either, because we don’t have the all-seeing admin view of the forum that you do. She asked people to PM her and so they did, and I certainly had no idea that enough people to completely fill her inbox had done so as well!
February 12, 2008 at 5:59 pm #664021I’m gonna move this to general, so that the original post isn’t confusing folks as much. That way we can try and solve this one, then she can decide what to do with them afterward. If she’s gonna sell them I imagine she’ll want to make a new post after all this anyhow.
Now that the situation is clearer (and many of us were mistakenly assuming this was an old collection) and we know what we know, hopefully everyone will be respectful and stop trying to secure the pieces, at least until there is some resolve. 🙂
Let’s keep the tone down and be respectful to whomever it is that passed, and be respectful to their family- without knowing the situation we can only speculate. We will learn more with time.
