It breaks my heart to think that a family though so little of grandma’s treasures that they “dumped” them at an antique shop. She obviously loved collecting them, and took great care of them till the end.
I know that my family doesn’t appreciate my pretties too much, but at least my kids know how much they mean to me. In the event of my untimely demise, they will be keeping a few of their favorites and EBaying the rest so they can find good homes. It makes me sick to think that they would end up broken and forgotten in someone’s basement, and I know they would get wonderful homes with other Forum members. I am sure she is smiling right now knowing they will be cherished by people as in love with them as she obviously was. I hope we can identify her so we can remember her as a truly remarkable person and collector.
Just my .02.
I hope that made sense, I am really tired and sad right now… 😥 Gotta go blow my nose and go to bed now.
February 12, 2008 at 6:23 am #663993Wow I really hope you can find out who it was that owned this collection… how sad. And that picture with the curlie, how could the family just give that away? I mean obviously they must not have known it was in there, but you’d think they would’ve checked through everything at least… ;^;
February 12, 2008 at 6:30 am #663994I have it set in my will what pieces go where. Right now, most would stay with my bf unless he doesn’t want to keep the piece, then they’re up for grabs. A couple go to friends…
I really hope we can find out who this person was. I’d hate to think that no one in her family wanted to keep these as a reminder of this person.
And we are one of the ones have upped the insurance on the house to cover the Windstones. Though I don’t number mine, they’re just listed in a spreadsheet and all have photos.
I would love to get a chance to pick up a white curlie, em-pea curlie, any flapcats, one of the flions and that gothic unicorn. But no hurry.
February 12, 2008 at 6:33 am #663995I’m jumping into this thread really late, but WOW, Aetheria.
No matter what the story is behind that collection, I really envy you finding it. You’re one lucky gal! I just hope we can find out who the grandmother was.
Will you be summarily listing all the pieces sometime? I can’t wait to see pics of the PYOs.February 12, 2008 at 6:45 am #663996AnonymousStop sending her PM’s you guys.
All you are doing is pushing messages she hasn’t read out of her box and replacing them with yours. You’re accomplishing nothing.
Someone we could know kicked the bucket and everyone is just interested in scavenging what remains of her collection.
February 12, 2008 at 6:56 am #663997That’s not fair. My pm was sent within a couple hours of her posting. I didn’t even know how many pieces she had found. If you haven’t noticed, we have started another thread in the General section trying to find out who this person is and we are all grieving a little about a fellow collector. At least we know that her cared for collection will go to good homes instead of being left out with the trash.
February 12, 2008 at 7:00 am #663998*spits beer* Kicked the bucket?
February 12, 2008 at 7:04 am #663999What, never heard that phrase before, lamorte?
February 12, 2008 at 7:11 am #664000Oh, I have….it’s not the most sensitive way to say “passed away”, though, esp. in light of his post.
February 12, 2008 at 7:11 am #664001Ah. You’re right.
February 12, 2008 at 7:23 am #664002Sorry to hear this is a serious and recent fellow collector. I was under the impression it was an old collection. I would love to see pics of the actual peices. Esp the PYOs. It could give us a clue, among other things.
February 12, 2008 at 7:41 am #664003I don’t want to see any fighting over this at all. When I’d posted originally, I didn’t understand just how precious my find was. I was very excited to share my discovery with the forums as well. But.. someone did pass away, and she left behind a beautiful collection. Really.. I’m not even worried so much about the dragons at this point. I just want to know who this lady was.. that’s all.
It’s really saddening.
No fighting or arguing of any sort over this? Please?
February 12, 2008 at 7:45 am #664004You won’t get any from me. And I’ll admit I felt really ashamed of my one PM after Snap made his post.
February 12, 2008 at 7:47 am #664005Me either…I’m most interested in learning who this lady was…there are no pieces I am after.
February 12, 2008 at 7:50 am #664006No squabbling from me.
I hope we can see pics of the PYOs. Maybe that will help us find out who she was 🙁 i was under the impression at the start of the thread that it was an old collection too. I hope you can get some answers, especially with the photo in with the curlie and the lovely sentiment on the Green Mama.
