But there is no rush, so take your time.Speak for yourself!!! π
I would love to see a picture of the whole collection!February 12, 2008 at 11:30 pm #664083Jennifer wrote:I hate, hate hate to say this, but there is a good chance that when poor Maggie passed, family went in and did a clean sweep and got rid of things as fast as possible so they could sell her home/condo/ or if she rented or something they wanted to get things taken care of asap. Some families deal with things differently. I’m not saying that it should be this way but with family in the real estate business I know he’s seen it a lot. It’s very, very sad… but it does happen a lot, especially these days. π
Indeed. When my maternal Grandmother passed away (the only grandparent I’ve ever known), whatever my mom and uncle didn’t take, my aunt pretty much was grabbing ‘gimmie gimmie’ to everything in sight so she could pawn it all off. I was away at college and ended up with pretty much whatever was left. My mom managed to salvage a few things that would otherwise have been pawned (like the animals my grandfather carved – went to my oldest brother, who did get to meet and know him). My mom and I did get most of the pictures (a sizeable box) and some old books and small things that got passed over because we were careful and looked. If we hadn’t found and taken them when we did, it would have just been dropped off at a pawn shop or dumped out in the trash. π₯ Some stuff my grandmother had really wasn’t worthy anything (mismatched dish missing a lid here, old plastic cups from this event there, etc.), but some was interesting none the less.
That’s just the way my aunt was (she also has/had money and alcohol issues) and my grandmother had a lot of stuff. Nothing my grandmother had valuable from a monetary standpoint, but sentimental or personal value more than anything else. I have her small ‘Charlie Brown’ Christmas tree that I would set up and decorate for her every year, even if it had to wait until I came home from college on break, and many of the decorations, and a few odds and ends. The pictures tell so much (since my mom knows many of the people in them (aunts and uncles and relations dead before I was born from the 20’s – 50’s). [side note: My aunt lived upstairs with my grandma and the rest of us downstairs (uncle about 2 miles away). Aunt can’t stand my mom and has disliked her from the day my mom was born – they share a birthdate, but are 5 or 6 years apart. My uncle is the oldest, my mom the youngest.]
Also, some people don’t find attachment to ‘things’ or understand why other people do. It’s also possible the family members for this woman may not have agreed with her collecting dragons. I know I have some family members who would consider some of my interests unhealthy or ‘wrong’ from a religious standpoint and my passing some of my books or possessions, while very valuable (and in some cases valuable) to other family members should something happen to me suddenly would be cause more than a stir. Those items will either go to a couple of my friends or would be packed up in a box to a store as well.
February 12, 2008 at 11:53 pm #664084YAY!!! All the dragons are staying together!!! Thanks for letting her keep them all!! π π
My most wanted list: Peacock kitty wizard, carnelian mouse wizard, copper patina frog wizard, autumn leaf poads, pumpkin spice kitties

When my Husbands Grandmother passed away a few years ago his parents got rid of everything as soon as possible and sold the house cheap just because it was too painful for them to deal with. They just wanted to get it behind them as soon as possible.
February 13, 2008 at 12:43 am #664086AnonymousI see my comment about PM’s has been greatly misconstrued.
I don’t care what you do with your sales, your pieces, your life. My comment was you are being unfair to EACH OTHER by pushing other people’s PM’s out of her mailbox.
But, hey, if you can push your competition out of the running, why not? I simply pointed out a restriction enforced by the forum. Users have finite PM space allocated to them, and you’re making great use of it.
February 13, 2008 at 12:49 am #664087I’m curious if you really think people knew that their PM were pushing others’ pms out of the box?
I would think if I pm someone who’s mailbox is full, mine would get bounced.
I have a hard time believing this cut throat bunch of Windstone collectors would know this. π

What does that have to do with anything? The point applied whether it was a dead forum member or some vagrant from the bus stop.
The vulturistic sniping of the actual pieces is not my concern, and that’s apparent to the entire forum without pointing it out.
February 13, 2008 at 12:52 am #664089In all fairness to Snap, he has told us about PM limitations in the past.

That’s why I posted it. To inform people. But I’m being cut apart for it.
Why do I know about it? Because my job is to be a full service web hoster and inform my clients of problems. These things get screened in my daily logs.
I’m getting the point that I should just keep my business to myself and my clients and go back to not participating in this community. My piece of advice, however rudely worded was still pertainant to the situation.
Now, I will shutup and keep to myself. Enjoy your day everyone.
February 13, 2008 at 12:57 am #664091What a find! If you’re looking for new homes for an Emporor or find any lap dragons in there, I’d be interested!

I guess thats where I was confused. What the point of your message was. The way you posted was pointed more at the diabolical nature of the formum members and the way they were premeditatingly sendind PMs knowing they were kicking out the older PM.
Your message wasn”t worded as an informational “Hey, did you kow…”No one told you to shut up or leave the forum either. That was you. We were merely commenting on your delivery.

Have we come to the point where people have to leave the Forum Completely??
I know I have been made to feel that way MANY times.
If you look on your PM screen it tells you what % of your PM box is full. I did not know PM’s bounce back or get bumped out but does it have to come to the place where actual web site runner and creater decided he has to leave??
Folks remember we are all guests in Melody’s house here and need to treat eachother with respect all the way around. We may not agreee on everything but then we just agree to disagree. There is no reason to get to this point.AND to be honest, I’ll be the first to say it, I was very taken back by how fast the free for all Started by so many. I think that may have been the reason some of my last posts have been so long. Instead of focusing on the joy of finding so many wonderful pieces in GREAT condition and the lucky find by a Forum member, and fairly new forum member at that, it was all about ME ME ME!!
I think DZ was trying to make the point that in all that ME ME ME stuff it seemed that a number of members where forgetting that the loss of a human life was atached to it.I’ll go hide in the corner with Snap now
February 13, 2008 at 1:13 am #664094Arya wrote:I haven’t said anything on this topic yet because a lot of you have said the same things I would have posted anyway. However, I have a Grandma Maggie. She’s certainly not the same person as this woman, but that really hit home. My Grandma was into crafting, and she quilted things for us when I was little, and now she’s in a nursing home, and her son basically dumped everything she owned that hadn’t be saved by the rest of us. If that’s what happened here, I know first-hand how horrible that can be for a person to go through, and I know my uncle is the kind of person that could have just dumped things like that at some shop for quick money and to get rid of it.
This whole story is really upsetting, no matter what actually happened. “Grandma Maggie” just did me in π
That brought me to tears as well. I had a grandmother name Margaret (don’t know if she ever went by Maggie) and she was crafty as well. She was the one who made the decorated eggs I’ve posted about. I still have many of the pieces that she made before her death and was lucky enough to help my parents go through her things after she passed. Many of the pieces we gave to friends and family we know loved her and would love to have something to remember her by. I’m saddend by the fact that Tristen may not ever have the quilt his Grandma Maggie lovingly made for him. π₯February 13, 2008 at 1:20 am #664095Dragon Master wrote:Snapdragon wrote:Phoenix wrote:I have a hard time believing this cut throat bunch of Windstone collectors would know this. π

No one was rude to Snap or made him feel he needed to leave that I could see.
He made a rude/irrate comment to people on a personal level basically equating them to vultures who were knowingly pushing forum members aside to get a piece of this treasure.
I don’t think someone commenting that he made an unfair statement is grounds to throw a tantrum and storm out.
That’s all I have to say about that. (Forrest Gump) πFebruary 13, 2008 at 1:36 am #664096Dragon Master wrote:Snapdragon wrote:Phoenix wrote:I have a hard time believing this cut throat bunch of Windstone collectors would know this. π

Well said DM. I applaud you. Don’t hide. We need the voice of reason expressed here π
I posted early on and PM’nd not even thinking about the mailbox filling up. I doubt if anyone was thinking of pushing messages out. It just never occurred to me. I don’t think anyone was trying to be vulture like or rude. We were just so excited about the great find. And to be fair it was posted in the Flea Market. I’m sure many of us reacted to the news of possible hard to get dragons being made available before the reality of someone passing really sank in.The same people who made requests and offers were just as quick to jump in on the next topic to express sympathy and concern. Now let’s all make up and act like wacky caring people we are OK? π π
