Were you able to get any more information… ❓ 😕

Maybe the male and female were gifts from the husband and wife to each other. (if this was a grandmother, I’m assuming she had a partner at some point)

Like someone said earlier, this may not have been an ‘older’ person. I’ve had friends in their 30’s who were grandparents. They may have been that young. Also, it sounds like it may have been a quick ending, where the lost one didn’t have time to see that their treasures were disposed of as they’d want.

If the emps are #’s 1 and 2, they may have started collecting around ’92. (if the numbers are chronological that is!) Was the message on the green mother dated, or are we guessing from what she is?

I guess I still see this as a message to all of us. See to it that there are explicit instructions- preferably written- of how you want your possessions to be dealt with, no matter how young you are. My fiance also has my forum name and password, and knows to come here and say if something happens to me.

My heart goes out to Aetharia for having this to deal with.

My mom has me witting a list of my prints and Windstones so she knows where to go to get an accurate value of them. Also I have some pieces that people here would want, so if I die (unexpectedly…and I assure you all it would be) They can go to people who will appreciate them.

Looking for Blue Fawn Baby Kirin
          Sanguine Oriental Test Paints, kinglet

Well Setsunawolf mantioned finding the family to see if they wanted the pieces?? Maybe I misunderstood that?
OK from my understanding the family was the one that brought all the Windstones to the antique shop to begin with. If they did not want them then why would they want them now.
It would be GREAT if the store owner had records of who they got donations from to try and track down the family to find out who this loving woman was. Maybe if you only have PART of the collection you can leave your number with the store and if they bring on more in the future you can get them to call you. That way we might be able to place the name and find out who she is.
It sounds like she has been collecting as long as I have. I will have 20 years this July. My Brown and Green Emperors where purchases retail and not on the 2nd hand market.
If she wrote #1 on the Brown Emperor and she bought it first sale like I did then he must have been purchased around 92-93 or so. He was only available then. I got VERY lucky to get mine right after they retired the Brown and it was actually because of Karen way back then that I got him. To my understanding the Browns where retired when the factory had a VERY low number of Emperors and being that they where only available one year means she most likely got him back then and has been collecting ever since. Some of this collection IS very old and has grown thru the years.
Lupin you asked about me displaying my Emperors?? I’m not sure what you mean?? I have 8 Emperors and soon to be more but it was not difficult for me in any way. I FINALLY found the glass display cases I wanted made sure they where deep enough for my plan and started filling them up. I will say my room was a mess during the process. All my Windstones at the time got the earthquake putty under them but the actual palcment of the dragons etc was a piece of cake for me. My cases are I think 14″ deep and wide enough for 4 Emperors each. I also have the Fledgling for each Emperor sitting in front of his Emperor. I have my Emperors on the base shelf and the cases have 6 shelves but because the Emperor’s are so tall I only used 5 of the glass shelves in each case The whole bottom of both cases are Windstone Dragons from the mid point up it’s a combination of things
            I hope this makes sense

I have never been so upset or angry in my entire life.

I went back to the shop to talk with the owner. She was very nice like she was when I was there on Saturday, and actually offered me another box of what she said was windstones. She said she thought that was ‘all of them’.. which I’m still not totally sure what that meant. I went on to ask her where all these dragons had come from, and if she knew the story behind their owner. I also went on to tell her I’d found personal items amongst the dragons I’d already unpacked, and that I really wanted to speak with a family member.

Her being nice, changed over to a sheet of ice. She said she didn’t understand why I was asking so many questions, and that she didn’t have any information about the owner or her family. I told her I just wanted to contact the family and at least tell them that I had personal items I thought they might want. Her response went along the lines of:

“They dumped all those boxes on me because they didn’t want them, and they seemed to be in a rush when they handed them over. I don’t know anything about the grandmother or her family. But I can tell you they didn’t want the dragons.”

And then went on to me I was really young to be asking so many personal questions about people I didn’t know, and to mind my own business.

She also went on to tell me she wanted 100.00 for that last box, which I think was more her being spiteful than anything else. I just wrote her a check, and left.

I’m really at a loss, and I don’t think I’m going to be able to find out anything at all.

            I’m sorry everyone. I tried. 🙁

I’m going to do some more sorting, and Lizzie took the two PYO’s to the campus to see if she can track down something in the Photography classrooms to get some pictures.

Yikes I can’t believe she got so defensive. You tried your best to find out who it was but it doesn’t sound like the store owner wants to help out at all.

I wouldn’t worry about it, Aetharia. You tried/are trying your best and that’s what counts.

Also, her response seems rather fishy to me….why would she be so defensive about you being caring?

HOW RUDE! 👿 Don’t feel badly for caring enough to be worried about an unknown collector’s family (kindred spirit) The lady at the shop sounds like she needs a lesson or 2 on compassion….. Grrrrrr! People like her make me SO angry 👿 . Post pix when you can and maybe we, together, can figure out who the owner was and how to contact the family. If we can’t, then feel free to re-home the pieces you don’t need, want or have room for and be comforted in the knowledge that they went to people who will cherish them and honor the original owner in an appropriate manner; with love and respect due to a kindred spirit.

dont feel bad .the only thing you can do is try and were not done yet .we still need to see the PYO’s and hopefully someone here will figure it out .

i think the store lady woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

To weigh in on this situation with Aetharia’s last update: it seems obvious to me that although the original owner of these pieces valued them highly, other people certainly don’t. Whether the family was greiving too much to go through these items or just didn’t care about them doesn’t really matter at this point; if they can’t be reached we’ll never know. Despite what may have happened before these pieces came into your care, Aetharia I agree with the others that it seems like this was the best thing that could happen to them now. They’re in the hands of a collector who will appreciate them just as much as the original owner. You’ve gone to great lengths to track down the family, so don’t feel bad!

Holy crap! Is there a possibility they can be *gulp* stolen??!! 😯 I know it is unlikely, but maybe the owner is away for an extended time period and her house was invaded? Maybe in the process of moving to explain the boxes so lovingly packed? I would hang on to these beauties for a while, just to make sure that is not the case. I know I would be DEVASTATED if my Windstones were taken while I was still alive!

To paraphrase Charleton Heston: “They’ll have to pry them from my cold, dead fingers!”

In all seriousness, the shop owner’s behavior makes me feel like something STINKS 👿 about this whole deal!

You are so sweet, Aetharia for making such an effort to find out about the owner. Don’t let that nasty lady ruin your day!

Don’t take it personally Aetharia. I imagine she gets to deal with people who take out their loss on her all the time. She probably just bit your head off because of something else in her life and you were an easy target. You were just trying to do what you thought was right, and ultimately that’s the best you can do. As long as you know you tried and feel you’ve done your best then I think you can trust your best judgment. For all we know it could have been her family member and she just wanted them gone.

My roommate made an interesting observation. The dragons might have been too painful for her surviving family members to keep around them. Filled with too many memories and they didn’t care about their value they just couldn’t deal with the emotional baggage.

You are a good person trying to do the right thing. Hold to that and things will work themselves out.

I decided to open the box that the shopkeeper handed over to me when I went to see her. It’s another green emperor that was wrapped in a quilt. He seems to be alright, but the quilt is what caught my attention. I make quilts myself, and I knew this one was handmade. I turned it over and sure enough, there was a small message stitched into the bottom corner. Usually a quilt maker will sign their work somehow, either by stitching it or even hiding it in the fabric in some special way.

The message was done in black embroidery thread, and it reads.

                          “For Tristan”
                          “From Grandma Maggie”
                          “2007”

Does anyone know a woman named Maggie on the forums??
