Ok, I don’t know if we have any dentists here, but the dentist is the one doctor I absolutely hate going to see.
I had to get 2 fillings changed yesterday; the bottom one’s ok, but the upper right gum is still killing me, probably from the freezing. Room temperature water is too cold still.
I asked for the type of fillings that would last the longest, so it’s silver. He said it should be ok, that the fillings shouldn’t show. Well, unless people peak inside my mouth when I’m yawning (and I do try to cover my mouth when I do, thank you very much), no one’s going to see that I have fillings. They’re not something I tend to show off 😕
Anywho, just to say I’m feeling a bit in the miserable side. Hmmf.

When you stab flesh with a big metal hook that something that tends to happen. I was supposed to go back a year ago to get two fillings but I chickened out and haven’t been back. I figure if they don’t bother me I’ll let them go (yeah I know thats bad).
November 14, 2007 at 4:37 pm #636481My dentist used some sort of white hard stuff that you cant even tell it’s a filling when it’s done…I actually go to a dentist who deals with children alot…I’m a real wuss when it comes to the dentist so I go to the same guy who does my kids…he’s nice, but I still hate getting work done…. 😳
November 14, 2007 at 4:53 pm #636482Porcelain fillings? I have those…I have quite a few fillings…I don’t mind going to the dentist I just hate how expensive it is! oh my gosh it’s crazy. I have to get a bridge at some point in the next few years and it’s going to cost me 1500 dollars…and that’s the price for me AFTER my mother’s health insurance covers their percentage of it…it’s absolutely insane.
I have an appointment this Thursday actually 🙁 need to get a filling replaced too…damn things…
November 14, 2007 at 4:56 pm #636483Going to the dentist = Ick. The problem with the white fillings is that they don’t last as long and you have to get them replaced sooner. (Just had one replaced 3 months ago)
I esp. hate the after-effects of the novacaine… I end up with a numb face for a day. My dad, however, has them double the shots and the numbness is already gone before he’s out of the chair. What’s up w/that? I would ask for a half dose, like my mom does, but I’m too chicken about the pain. Ah well.November 14, 2007 at 5:22 pm #636484I don’t like going to the dentist either. In fact I put it off for three years after I got married to my husband because the last dentist I went to was awful. I finally got the nerve up this summer to go get seen and must have gotten lucky with the dentist I found. She and her dental assistant were so gentle when they were working on me that I almost didn’t realize they were cleaning my teeth. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a dentist that gentle. I certainly don’t remember my pediatric dentist being that gentle. I was lucky this last time and didn’t have any cavities.
Oh and I really have a reason to not like going to the dentist. I have crowns on both my top front teeth from childhood accidents. One is a porcelin one, the other is a newer crown put in by thr awful dentist.
November 14, 2007 at 6:32 pm #636485I guess I am neutral when it comes to going to the dentist. Maybe it’s because I have had a lot of work done (with braces and such) so I am used to them prodding my mouth.
I am sorry you are a little down. I hope you’ll feel better! 😉November 14, 2007 at 6:59 pm #636486I went to the dentist on October 30th and had a temporary crown put on my upper back molar. I ended up with a bruise on my face and a swollen cheek (you can even ask Windstone Collector, she saw it at Icon). It’s two weeks later and I still have them. My jaw hurts so bad I can hardly talk most days. I’m supposed to go back next Tuesday to have the permanent crown put in, but I’m not sure if I can go.
I called the dental office yesterday, and they asked me to come in so they could look at it. It turns out that I hyper-extended my jaw when I had the novocain, and I now have a Charley-horse in my jaw. So it clenches uncontrollably, causing the pain. The bruise is from the novocain shot and should go away. They gave me some techniques to use to rub it out and a prescription for some pain medicine. They said they will give me something stronger if I need it. And will move back the appointment of my second visit if I need to do that too.
But what if it gets better and I go in and it happens again? I don’t know if I can handle this twice. Especially now that I’m finally done with the shingles and cold and my uncle dying and everything else in my life.
I know, I can handle it. The alternative is not acceptable. I just have to hang in there… and breathe (like I tell everyone else). Maybe I should start meditating again. Hm… That might help.

November 14, 2007 at 8:02 pm #636489Oh… ouch emerald! 🙁
The next time I goto a dentist all they are going to see are dollar signs $$$$$ It sucks. 🙁
November 14, 2007 at 8:39 pm #636490I had the rare opportunity to be renewing my dental insurance to where in one week I got 6 fillings and all was covered on insurance and then is renewed so in the next month I got 5 more fillings and and cleaning and all were covered (I hadn’t been in several years). For my lower jaw, both times took 3+ Novocaine injections to numb my teeth- not so much fun but they also used a topical to numb them first. All 4 quadrants of my teeth redone on my molars due to poor flossing habits. I think grand total was something like <$400 but all were tooth color save for 1 silver filling which after that one I swore never again because I DON'T cover my mouth when I yawn :p
NOW CHILDREN: Always remember to floss your pearly whites!

I might not be a dentist, (dental tecnitian speaking) but I think I do know something about the subject, my opinion of the matter is that: True, that silver or gold is the best thing for fillings in Molars because it has similar hardness as the teeth have in other words it won’t ruin the opposit teeth, but the worst thing about metal fillings is, I dont know how to say this but it lets heat and cold through just like electicity, and assuming that you are 20-35 I would say that your pulp is still in good condition which means that it is a very very very short distance from the metal and ouala, tooth acke
I got my gold filling 5 years ago, and my pulp has adjusted

I figure if they don’t bother me I’ll let them go (yeah I know thats bad).your gums probably bleed, assuming you are healthy, because you don’t floss very often, that means that food that is accidentaly left there causes swelling which can even lead to bleeding when brushing, if you start to floss you might even bleed for a week while the gums “get used to” the torture, but if your gums are swollen most of the time, it might leed to the bone decreasing and your teeth loosening up, not so good
I really don’t mean to scare you guys

November 14, 2007 at 11:54 pm #636492I don’t like going to the dentist, but mine isn’t bad. He has TVs in the roof and headphones so you can watch and listen while they work. The worse parts for me are when he uses the scaling thing on me, he uses an ultra sonic one which is faster and painless but makes really high pitched sounds on my molars which make me cringe…. and I see to get over the freezing very quickly. Having the numbness go in the middle of having a filling done REALLY sucks!
