Being laid off, whether it be welcomed or not, really throws your world into a whirlwind! You stress about filing your unemployment claim and hope they get it and hope checks come in a timely manner–then comes trying to find affordable [an oximoron] medical coverage! The older you get, the worse it seems it is! Cobra is expensive–even with a 65% government subsidy I still would be paying over $400 a month! Yeah right, on unemployment! And, another curse of being older, not too many employers are going to hire you full time and give you benefits because of your age!!!!! So here I sit, my life turned upside down for the moment and I thought finding and getting coverage for major medical, vision and dental was a big, big accomplishment!

Well not to some certain folks. Seems like now I have people questioning me about the insurance carrier I chose–Anthem Blue Cross because they seem to be drawing some fire for raising their rates next month and that some sort of legal action is being brought against them! My ex coworker was insterested in what I find [because deep down she knows it is just a matter of time before they can her]. So she sends me this email asking why I chose Anthem and that her husband saw in the paper about the legal action. Well I had about enough! She certainly wasn’t helping me in this matter and in fact, she knew they were going to can me and probably knew this for some time!!!!!!!!

So I threw a bit of a hissy fit! Told her my main concern was something I could afford and I could afford this! I don’t like the high deductible but when you can’t shell out $400+ a month you really don’t have a choice. And one plan’s wonderful affordable rates may be good in a particular state but not necessiarly in my state, California. Plus I told her no one was stepping up to the plate to help me and oh, by the way I’m alone remember–no one there to give me guidance and support but now you come out of the woodwork after the fact to question my choice! Also, told her to look at her own card now and she will see that her carrier is–drum roll–ANTHEM BLUE CROSS! So that pretty much puts us in the same boat as far as insurance carriers go. And….the agent I was working with told me to make my effective date the end of February so I would lock in the current rate–and it stays locked in for 2 years. 2 years I don’t have to worry about this rate rising! Unemployed–remember b*t*h–don’t have much money coming in and I don’t have a husband now to support me like you do!

Doesn’t it just chap your hide when people do this to you! Not lift a finger to help but when you finally make a choice and they don’t like it, they sure love to put your face into it! And um, what insurance carrier hasn’t had their share of actions being brought against them! And..how many people are in fact insured through Anthem Blue Cross??!! I’m certainly not alone in my poor choice!!!!

Okay, I’m done–let’s have fun now!!!!!!

Awww…Yeah, it is one annoying thing to have a “friend” who is only there to rag on you whenever you finally make a choice for yourself. A swift kick in the teeth is always nice for them. 😉 (Usually done without physical violence but with a sharp tongue and some wit on our part. 😈 )
Hang in Hun, that’s what I keep telling myself. 🙂 *HUGS*
