Oh, he’s cute. And he looks so scared. Give him some time and attention, and he should warm up soon. How about Booger? My friend has a cat named Booger, and sometimes my cat Merlin gets called that too. 😆

I was thinking about “Bacchuss” after the Greek/Roman God of wine and revelry. I will just have to change his personality….or get him drunk. I think Paul would like the name, too. He is a real wine connoisseur. Ok, so he just likes to drink, but he drinks wine.

He is very good looking and has beautiful markings I hope his disposition changes. I had a black cat (Panther) at one time and I think that cat was born mean. I got her at 6 weeks and the first thing she did was bite a neighbor who came over to see her. My husband said – I told you to take that little gray one that loved to be held but you had to have a black one. But she lived to be almost 18 years old so that was good.

Oh he looks like my old Smokie. Her name was Abby till my mom changed it. 😆 Give him a few days. I’m sure he’ll be fine.

Hes adorable. Glad you saved him from a shelter. Im sure he will settle down once he has a substantial amount of time in your house. Who really knows what he saw, heard and felt while he was at the shelter.

A good little trick, if you can handle it, it to smear tuna oil/juice on your wrists like perfume, and hang out near the cat. You *do* run the risk of being nipped out of excitment when he smells it, however, in my experience Ive found that the cat reacts like Pavlovs dogs and will further associate you with food and goodies and it will all turn out good for you. Never too soon to introduce the art of getting stoned on catnip! Put some in your pockets and such so that he associates pleasurable bodily/brain response with you.

Do you have one of those white noise machines that has the ocean sounds, rainforest and heart beat- among others? If you wrap up the gizmo in a towel and set it to heartvbeat in or near his enclosure, it may help to relieve some stress for him as they like to be near maternal heart beat sounds (not too loud though). That worked well for one puppy I had once.

As for keeping him from Windstones, you obviously cant spray them with Bitter Apple! All I can suggest is possibly put double sided sticky tape on the surface he would land on before reaching the statues. That could either work well or, it could catch him by surprise and have him jerk and leap such that he takes down the Windstones with him. Right now, in my new house, I dont want the cats going on the chairs or sofa. The double sided sticky tape has worked well.

Good luck and be patient. Hes so very cute! Congrats mama!

Double sided tape? 😆 Dosen’t work for me. Romeo likes to play with tape.

Cats really love Temptations. Try giving him a treat whenever he pops out.

Hey- I’m getting a new kitten in about 5 weeks… the wait is taking for ever but it is a little sphinx kitten but he has peach fuzz so they didn’t want him! I gobbled him up for about a quarter of what I see them online for… I already named him from the pics lol… his name is niles (like from fraiser)
I just wanted to share in the new kitty section haha
Congrats on your beauty… boy he has a devilish look in his eye 😉

I miss having a cat. My cat, Miss Kitty, died this year. She was 16 years old. It doesn’t feel right not having a cat around the house. I have a bunny….but it’s just not the same. And I miss my kitty.

Any chance he’s part feral? We had two kitties before Loki and Pixel and before our boys were born named Fred and Abby – we got them in farm territory out in south eastern Washington State and they told us they (Fred and Abby) were part feral. My husband and I were the only people those two would approach so they went home with us. It took awhile to gentle them. They didn’t like to be handled but Rod, my husband, would carry them around in his bathrobe pockets and we would wrap them up papoose style in a bath towel to hold them while we watched tv. It seemed to help them feel a little more secure. When we weren’t at home or at night, we confined them to the bathroom and once they were comfortable with that part of the house we allowed them supervised exploration of the rest of the house.

If he has just been separated from his litter mates for the first time he will probably have some anxiety over that and if there are other bigger animals in the house that can be really intimidating too. If you have a vet close by see if they carry feline facial hormones in spray form. Our vet does and it is a big help in calming our kitties when something new happens or things change. Just be really patient and as calm as possible and see how things go. Give it a good week and he should start to settle in. Did you say you had a dog as well? That can be hard for a shy kitty. Sometimes it helps if you put a blanket or towel that your dog sleeps with in the kitty kennel or bathroom or closet (where ever kitty is most comfy) along with the kitten. This allows baby cat to become comfortable with your canine child’s scent in a non-threating manner. Do the same for the pup so that he can become acquainted with the kitten’s scent without having to sniff kitty all over right away. It always helps to be holding and petting the pup when you allow them to meet. It keeps the pup calm and lets kitty approach at his own pace and comfort level.

              Hope this helps 🙂

p.s. Fred was short for Freddy Krueger and Abby was Abby because she had ‘Abby-solutely no tail’. Growing up we had a cat called ‘Cheaper than mouse traps’ because we got her for free and caught all the mice in the area. My brother who lives in Australia named their cat ‘Chook’ which is Aussie slang for ‘Chicken’ because she was a big scardy cat. It’s hysterical to hear my nieces calling “Here chook, chook, chook, chook” when it’s time to feed the chickens and see all the hens and the cat come running! 😀

In theory, no hair sounds great but these kinds of hairless cats (as well as virtually no hair cats like the Rex breeds) actually need more grooming by way of baths because you are going to be dealing with body oils getting gooped up everywhere he will constantly look dirty. Bath a week my friend… youll see what I mean! But he will be adorable!

              #625735

They do need more body care, but the great thing is still no cat hair, i dislike cat hair…alot. But they need more cleaning, and they still lick themselves but because of the lack of hair can do serious damage to their skin, but htey are soooo neat.

Thanks for all the advice! An olive? Thats odd… never would have thought of that. I would give him one if I could find him. He dissapeared during the night. Left the security of the litter box and I have no idea where he ended up.

As for the dogs meeting the cat, they are not like that. They wont run up and sniff him or anything like that… they will just look at him and maybe follow him around. They are really good and very tolerant dogs. They even like the rabbit.

Well.. I better go see if I cant dig up the cat. I am actually slightly worried, though I am sure he just found a better place to hide.

He’s probably just found a better hiding place. Smoky found a way into our duct system when she first came to stay.
