Woohoo! I have no idea what it means, but it’s obviously a good thing. I’m so glad you’re out of the bad suspense.

(We don’t know all the Army Avvreviations like most don’t know the Windstone Abbretations)

Becoming an E-7 means Ski will eventially be promoted to a Sergeant First Class.
NCOER – Noncommissioned Officer Evaluation Report (Department of the Army FORM 2166-8)
From Wikipedia.org
Quote:Sergeant First Class (SFC) is the seventh enlisted rank in the U.S. Army, just above Staff Sergeant and below Master Sergeant, and is the first grade at which a non-commissioned officer is considered a senior non-commissioned officer.
In a United States Army platoon, the position of platoon sergeant is normally held by a Sergeant First Class. The platoon sergeant is the primary assistant and advisor to the platoon leader, a First Lieutenant or Second Lieutenant. When necessary, the platoon sergeant acts as the platoon leader in his or her absence. Unless the platoon leader has extensive prior experience as an enlisted member before being commissioned as a lieutenant, it is likely that the platoon sergeant will have a greater wealth of military experience due to the disparity in military service length between a new lieutenant and a Sergeant First Class; service experience, however, is not a prerequisite for commissioning and command. On occasion, when a platoon’s Sergeant First Class is not available for assignment, a responsible Staff Sergeant will be appointed to perform the duties of the absent Sergeant First Class.

Quote:What is an NCOER?
Rating chain members use the DA Form 2166–8 (NCOER) to provide DA with performance and potential assessments of each rated NCO. The DA Form 2166–8 also provides evaluation information to ensure that sound personnel management decisions can be made and that an NCO’s potential can be fully developed. How many types of NCOERs are there?
There are 7:
1.) Annual
2.) Change of Rater
3.) Relief for Cause
4.) Comelete the Record
5.) 60 Day Rater Option
6.) 60 Day Senior Rater Option
7.) Temporary Duty, Special Duty or Compassionate ReassignmentWhat are some of the uses of an NCOER?
The information in evaluation reports, the Army’s needs, and the individual Soldier’s qualifications will be used together as a basis for such personnel actions as school selection, promotion, assignment, military occupational specialty (MOS) classification, command sergeant major (CSM) designation, and qualitative management.March 14, 2008 at 2:24 pm #679375Congrats, Ski! That’s great news!
March 14, 2008 at 2:29 pm #679376Yay Ski! All right!
So, which Wndstone are you going to buy to celebrate? 😆March 14, 2008 at 2:49 pm #679377Congrats Ski! 😀
March 14, 2008 at 2:51 pm #679378Thanks for that, Peg. Just to let ya’ll know how serious this was… the last NCOER I got from A co. (THe one I was worried about) Was a #3, Relief for Cause. There are not very many people in the Army who get one, and I should not have gotten one, and basically, if you do get one, your career is on hold for the next five years. For someone retiring in 6, that was a big deal. Now it doesnt matter… it will take an act of Congress to take my promotion away 😀 I just got my Rainbow empress, and that is my celebration peice. That, and I am takin the family to dinner.

The only thing that can stop the promotion is for the Colonel to put in paperwork to do it, and since I have done nothing illigal, I doubt he will. I am sequence #33. I dont know what month my number will come up, but I have a number. I am soooo happy.
I am a little confused. 😳 I guess I don’t understand what it means to have a number….BUT I can tell it’s a good thing, so I am happy! 😀

Each month they will promote how ever many people they need. When number 33 comes up, it will be my turn. One month they may promote 10 and the next maybe none, so there is no telling when I will get picked up, but now it is only a matter of time. So basically I am number 33 in line.
