Should be obvious and simple, however, I’m having trouble with these markers. How does one use a DecoColor marker?

I’m using the broad and thin round tipped gold markers, the same Windstone uses, but when I try to touch something up it’s streaky and thin (yes I shake the marker before use). If I try to make a second pass it ruins the first layer and clumps. The gold detailing on Windstones always look so smooth and flawless. What am I doing wrong? How does one color a large area without making streaks?

I have them and know you have to press down on them to get the paint out. I would experiment pressing them on paper first til you get the results you want. Be careful though because I once used one to touch up a piece and pressed too hard and the gold paint ran all the way down a dragon wing that I had to repaint. After that I would press the marker on paper, then touch a paint brush to the gold and touch up my pieces with the paintbrush. If you do that though, it does dry fast on the paintbrush and will wreck paintbrushes so you would be best using one just for that.

Yep! You have to “pump” or press these types of markers, because it’s not normal ink coming out but a type of metallic paint. Get a sheet of paper to blot on, and press the nib into the paper several times to “pump” some paint into the nib. Blot on the paper until you have the flow you like, then use it to detail your Windstone. It should just take one stroke to do each detail, as the paint flows a bit when applied correctly, to create a smooth look. It should take a relatively light touch. IF not, then there isn’t enough paint in the nib, and you will need to pump/press the nib on your blotting paper again. Touchups can be done with a very light touch (when the nib is fully ‘charged’ with paint).
