Ok, so many repeated discussions about this subject brought this question to mind.
It’s not really an ask Melody question specifically, but who knows, it might be a good suggestion if it’s not something already being done.
A brick and morter dealer shipped a Lap dragon to me and although they assured it would be well packed, and it was, it still was damaged.
The short and skinny as to why it received some damage on route was that, although it was bubble-wrapped very well and double boxed, it was in a box on it’s own that was almost twice as long as it was.
Soooo, I was wondering, do you folks at Windstone offer tutorials, advice, suggestions, web-links, recommend that they keep the original boxes, mandatory testing that will be graded by Chessie …. add naseum, to your dealers on shipping these very delicate sculptures?
They really are shipping fodder without your original boxes.
Thanks!

PS Horses squeek to ya know. 8)We don’t give OFFICIAL advice, other than to tell folks to use the original shipping inserts and box the piece came in from us, because we can’t control how well people would follow our advice and we don’t wanna get blamed for damage! …but I’d be happy to rant about stupid packing. The key is pack them FIRMLY in place, double boxed. If the piece can wiggle around at all in its packing material, it will pound itself to dust. People who ship these things often don’t take the weight into account. Windstones are much heavier than a ceramic piece of the same volume, and even a smallish one can compact packing material, and wiggle out of of loose bubble wrap leaving it free to rattle around. Windstones do have a self-destructive tendency, kinda like sheep.

March 28, 2008 at 12:10 am #682507Or lemmings.
March 28, 2008 at 12:22 am #682508Why is it that every time I hear of lemmings I think of http://www.joecartoon.com ? π π
Yeah, it seems no matter what you say or do, there will always be that one person who thinks they know it all. I got a Large Black wizard for $61 on ebay. He came in a box just long enough for him, single boxed and only wrapped in a few layers of brown paper. Another lost fight with the PO…But, his damage wasn’t significant enough to really do anything about, and I wasn’t turning him over to them when I got such a sweet deal and they would just junk him in the end. π
I have a 10x10x10 ft storage unit that is ceiling to floor along the whole back wall and 3 ft deep with Windstone boxes alone…My cat sprayed all the old foam boxes I did have for the beginning of my collection. SO, I have only a few that I got from sellers on Ebay. But, I do have boxes for all my Windstones, just not all original boxes. πMarch 28, 2008 at 12:24 am #682509I prefer dogs to cats, myself. π
March 28, 2008 at 2:22 am #682510Yeah, but sadly my pisser of a kitty isn’t with us anymore…My cats use the litter boxes now…ALL 5! π―
(I can’t have a dog in an apartment, but they allowed cats…Guess they prefer the litter box to the back yard method of waste disposal. π π )March 28, 2008 at 2:34 am #682511WindstoneCollector wrote:Yeah, but sadly my pisser of a kitty isn’t with us anymore…My cats use the litter boxes now…ALL 5! π―
