I just got a family of brown dragons, teh mother, father and hatchling. I’ll include pictures as soon as I finish cleaning them off. What I was wondering is how old they are. These ones don’t have the felt bottom, and the painting seems a bit more unfinished than the current production pieces. Anyone care to hazard a guess?

I believe folks have said that the ones without the felt pads are older than the ones with pads, but I don’t know where exactly they fall in the production timeline. They should still have the Windstone stamp on the bottom. Heh–none of them have crazy slightly glittery eyes under a strong light, do they?

The old browns were first released in the 80’s. The male came out in 1986, the female in 1985, and the Hatchling in 1984.

Thanks. They do have the sate samps on them, but all of the hatchlings are stamped ’84, so I wasn’t sure about these guys. As for the eyes, they are a lovely shade of blue, but otherwise quite normal. Thanks again.

If the eyes are a light blue, then you’re talking real old. I have a brown male, and I have to say that in some areas, the painting job isn’t that great; some spots were missed πŸ™‚ I emailed Melody about it (thinking I’d been ripped off), but it turns out he’s probably one of the first castings done. The finish is matte and the brown is rather uniform.

Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

My male is old too. He has the light blue eyes, and no felt. He looks rather harsh compared to the smooth look of the dragons done recently. His antiquing wasn’t wiped off just right, but he is still real pretty. My female on the other hand has very dark blue eyes and her felt pad from Windstone. But, my young has lighter eyes, and a felt pad from Windstone. I like the mothers eyes better than the medium blue of the young or the light ones of the father. Go figure. πŸ™„ HAHAHAHA

BTW…I put sticky felt on the bottom of my male…Didn’t know any better at the time. Didn’t want him scratching around on my bookcases. Shoulda just set him on some material. πŸ˜•

I hear ya, WSC. I put mine on sticky felt too. I was so proud of my ingenuity at the time πŸ™„

Mine has a harsh finish & excess antiquing too, some spots of not-so-great painting. He really needs some gold put back on him in a LOT of spots (and a little of the blue shades). I’d attempt a touch-up if I wasn’t afraid to ruin it. πŸ™
I’m not sure on the eyes though. They’re light, but not quite the same as my other pieces. I’m thinking they’re the “normal” blue.

I got the mother and father in early 1986 and the young and hatchng around 1989 and they have blue eyes. Later (much later) Melody did the emperor and empress hatching, fledgling and kinglet in the brown and they are a different color brown and they eyes are a different shade of blue – also felt is different.
