if you don’t breed her one year she’ll try to mama someone else’s baby! She is awesome.

I used to volunteer at a horse farm that had an old Appaloosa broodmare (1/2 Arabian, can’t remember the other half) that was only happy when she had a baby at her side. If she didn’t she would start to be a little nasty to the other horses that shared her pasture space.

Hehe she’s never nasty (sometimes hard to catch when she knows she’s going to be rode!) but she just is much happier and has that pregnant lady glow when she’s pregnant or has a baby. I swear, within a couple weeks of being pregnant her coat dapples up and gets all golden and she glows! None of the other mares do like her she just wants to be a mama. I don’t know how many more babies she will have because she has to have a caslicks now.

I have 6 horses of my own. My family together has about 20. 4 out of 6 are retired from showing. I do hunter jumper and three day eventing. I really enjoy derssage.

This is a pictire of my Spanish Norman Serafina at Mayfest horse show in Lexington! She is my best friend!

I don’t know the number without counting LOL my family breeds foundation QH’s… currently 3 studs, 4 geldings, 5 mares, one foal on ground 3 more to come, 3 yearlings… I think that’s everyone.

Do you do the AQHA shows? My retired show qhorse was named Handy Doc Hancock. He was 3rd in nationals for Hunter Jumpers in the AQHA I want to say in 2001.

Nope we do reining, penning, speed shows, that kind of thing. Hancocks a good line though!

I agree 100% tasgrs. We’re looking to move out of NJ eventually, too.

I know I’ve seen you mention places in NJ before. What part of Jersey are you in? I’m currently in central, near Great Adventure. The area used to be nothing more than pine trees and lots of chicken farms. In the last 10 years, our property taxes have nearly doubled, and don’t get me started on how many new developments have gone in. 😡 And we’re well and septic; no city water, no sewer–no natural gas in our neighborhood–yet. No kids in the school system, volunteer fire and ambulance, and we pay for our own trash pick up. So, what’s the bang for my buck? 😛

The bright side is **for now** I can still tack up and go out the driveway and be on some dynamite trails without having to use the trailer. That was the A #1 reason we bought here 11 years ago. And truthfully, this place is more than I ever figured we’d have while we still lived in NJ. But my dream is to find a place with about 30 acres and a nice house and big barn….and GRASS!!! Have I mentioned that there is no grass here in the pinelands? 😆 Too much sandy, acidic soil. But, for now I try to be happy with what we’ve got. It’s easier than getting overly PO’d. 😆

Very nice!! The Spanish Norman is the Andalusian/Percheron cross, right? I looked at them ages ago.
I did dressage long ago with my old Pinto gelding, at a time when Pinto horses simply weren’t supposed to do dressage. (tongue firmly in cheek. 😀 ) I got away from dressage, tried 3 day eventing, and again, the Arabs had a hard time there, too. I’m 5’8″ with a fairly long leg, and even though the horses don’t have any problem carrying me, I look a little too big for some of them. I got back into driving because my husband doesn’t ride, and started doing combined driving, which is the carriage version of 3 day eventing.
I was competing pretty often with our stallion, who *really* shone in the marathon phase. If I point him at a hazard, he’s like “Yahoo! Let’s DO IT!!!” These guys are like cats; they are just incredibly agile. I’ve had RB change direction in mid air on me a few times. The one reason I started breeding was because the lines I’ve got proved to be very sensible and easy to train. And at least in harness, most times there isn’t a lot of breed bias 🙄

I got that alot with my arabian in hunter jumper. She had a hard time tucking her legs under when she jumped. One reason I stoped doing the hunter shows was people were so snobby. I believe alot of the shows are fixed. Three day eventing isnt so bad cause your timed and your faults are counted. Dressage is the only time you get judged. I lost the high point award once because the judge didn’t like Serafina. Some judges just don’t like draft horse crosses 🙁

I’ve noticed a fair amount of breed bias regarding Arabs too, QH people really turn their noses up to them in general. When I mention Dancer is an Arab to someone who rides primarily QH, they tend to make disparaging remarks about the breed.

Thing is, Dancer is very intelligent, loving and willing to please. He is easygoing, and loves to be with his people. In a lot of ways, he’s more of a dog than a horse. I’ve met some real stoopid QH’s in my time…and don’t get me started on some of the TB’s out there, when the breeders start breeding anything with 4 legs cause they think they can race them and make $$.

Overall though, most horse breeds have a lot of good traits, I loved the arab in 13th Warrior…they kept calling his horse a dog, but by Gods that horse could jump! *grin* And he was loyal and dependable, which is more than they could say for their horses!

I have 4 now. I keep starting to say 5, but catch myself 😥

I have all Section A Welsh ponies.
            1 Bay stallion (Frodo)
            1 Chestnut mare (Fortune)
            1 Buckskin mare (Silo)
            1 Palomino mare

My mare Fortune is due within a couple weeks (I hope)
Right now I’m looking for a pony rider/trainer for Silo. I would love for her to be trained reining, but can’t find anyone to start her.

So how many of you have read fuglyhorseoftheday.com?

Not for the faint of heart, but totally entertaining!

I had horses all my life and grew up competing… until my health took it all away from me. My best horse died in 96 at age 33 and the ones that are mine now that I cant ride per doctor rules, my sister in law keeps and trains as she rides too.
