I thought I was the only one who smelled kitties while giving them a nuzzle-I don’t feel nearly as strange anymore πŸ˜‰ One of my favorite smells is the way the things smell right after a rain shower.

The smell in the desert after a monsoon rain – that’s my favorite smell in the world. And not only is it my favorite, but it brings up so many wonderful memories of summers spent running wild with my cousins on my grandparent’s farm. A single smell can instantly transport me to another place or another time – it triggers my memories like nothing else can.

Oh yes, that’s wonderful! I used to live in Arizona and there’s nothing like a storm in the desert, I can almost smell it just thinking about it πŸ™‚

*points to her location and grins* My grandparents used to love down at the southern end of the state, and there was nothing I liked better than sitting on the porch with my grandfather, watching the storms to the south and smelling that smell…

Yes I see! I wish I lived there again, I’m not fond of Wisconsin weather πŸ˜› Room for me, two cats and a fish? LOL Just kidding πŸ˜‰ I loved watching a lightning storm in the desert, not many things more beautiful than that.

Now you’ve got me all nostalgic! I hope we get a good monsoon season this year. πŸ™‚

Back on topic, I also love the smell of fresh coffee (don’t really care for the taste), freshly watered grass, and fallen leaves. Also anything having to do with baking – especially Molina vanilla extract. That’s the best vanilla you’ll ever find, IMHO. πŸ™‚

I also love burying my nose in oranges/dogs/kitty/husband. XD Alas though, I believe I have a very poor sense of smell. πŸ™ I really need to get my nose in there and sniff to get a strong whiff of things unless it’s something like a freshly cut orange :-/

I most definitely do not like my strong sense of smell. Mainly because due to it I easily get headache from different kinds of smells…

I had a co-worker who was very sensitive to perfumes, and would go out of her way to avoid them (granted, we had some clients who tended to splash the stuff on pretty heavily). I’ve got a fairly good sense of smell and I really enjoy it. Plus, the smell/memory connection is just amazing. I remember stepping out of a car outside Austin, TX and stopping cold in my tracks because the air smelled exactly like my great-uncle’s farm in Indiana. I hadn’t been there in years, but I remembered everything about it just from that smell.

Lol here I think I’m strange for smelling everything. I like the smell of diesel fumes too (because of work) and the smell of turnout clothes after a fire. I love the smell in the air right before a big rainstorm. I wish we could make this a scratch and sniff thread lol.

I’ve been told I have a beagle nose, because I can detect stuff that most people can’t. I love the smell of my horses when they aren’t too filthy, puppy breath, and fruits and flowers are heavenly to me.

It is pretty neat sometimes, but can be awful too. The strong perfumes and creams tend to give me a headache; and don’t even get me started on cigarette smoke again! πŸ‘Ώ

Love to sniff and nuzzle my kitties. Love all baking smells, well not the burnt ones. Love the smell when the lilacs bushes near us are in bloom (not that fake crap) love the smell of spring. Unfortunately I love the smell after a rain storm but in the city it just smells like dead worms. πŸ˜• Love to sniff my bf’s hair when he’s asleep, he has long hair. Sh, don’t tell him that. πŸ˜†

I dunno about you guys, but I use my nose on-the-job a lot as a wildlife biologist. A healthy animal usually has a clean, wholesome smell, while still smelling like an animal. A sick animal will often smell differently, or have an off-scent, even if it looks just fine (this is important because wild animals often hide injury or sickness). I also use my nose when tracking and hunting. Often, I can smell whatever I am tracking long before I actually see it. I can smell elk from *miles* away.

Oh. And working in a wildlife necropsy room. Talk about an olfactory experience. Or a dermestid colony. Not for the weak of heart, or stomach.

OMG!!! I did NOT just read a reference to CDIFF!! *gags* (I think I jsut threw up a little into my mouth. πŸ˜› ) G.I.’s are bad too (Yes, my mom has worked in a hospital for 28 yrs, and I am a CNA) One toot from a person with crohn’s disease can be leathal. My uncle can clear out a room full of people in one fell swoop, worst part is he knows it and they have the family functions at his house since Gramma passed away. πŸ™„ πŸ˜† *shakes head*
I enjoy the fact that I associate smells with memories.
And that wet screen smell just after the rain is awesome! Or the electrical smell just before a big thunderstorm.
(Yeah those diesel fumes could very well get me into trouble. I have a hard time not inhaling deeply when my boss walks by even. I know, I am weird. πŸ™„ )

OH!! that’s one of my favorites!!! My hubby gets the sniff attack when he comes back from a fire, actually no-one in the firehouse is safe from a good sniffing after those calls. Good thing they’re all friends, or I would be the really weird one!! But cigarette smoke makes me actaully gag. My mother smokes like a chimney, and as soon as I get home, I strip and jump in the shower, soooooooo gross. I also love the smell of fresh brewed coffee, except for when I was pregnant, then it made me yak. And fresh cut grass, and lilacs, and magnolias.

I love the crisp clean smell of mints. One of my favorites!

I miss the smell of my husband – he’ll get lots of sniffing (after a shower or two πŸ˜† ) when he gets home from Iraq.
