While I would like to support me local brick and mortar store, sometimes it is just too expensive.

I went to my local shop here to check out the new wolf griffins in person. And, while I’m considering buying them, I can’t stand how much they jack the prices up. The female griffin is priced at $228. If I buy it from Windstone direct, it would come to $190. I just can’t justify paying $38.00 more per griffin (male and female). Cause, really, thats a fledgling. 😕

a store near here (not the one i normally go to) does the same thing..i was forced to buy my empea lap and male from them because no one else had them but they where $210 each 😯

People! Wolflodge and I would be happy to sell them to you, and you don’t have to pay those jacked up prices. You would have to pay shipping though, but it can’t be that bad. At least get a quote from us first before spending money like that. That seems ridiculous. 😕

A physical retail store is much, much more expensive to run than a home based business, which is probably reflected in their higher prices. I’m not trying to defend them- after all I don’t know where you are shopping! Just trying to offer an explanation. I worked for a privately run gift store for a while and I got to see how much it cost to run. It was scary.

I guess that depending on where you live, shipping charges might be cost-prohibitive when it comes to buying from a store vs. online. Plus, if you buy from a store, you don’t risk the item getting damaged during shipping, and you have the opportunity to hand-pick the piece. Since the different artists cause slight variations, some people might like some paint jobs better than others. *shrugs*

Forever seeking: Blackwatch the raffle Old Warrior, Jennifer Miller's pieces, and GB Baby unis!

Yep, I think it also goes down to who you trust to get the peices and how well they package them. Tsjja, maybe you can see if they can have a sale. Or if you buy more than 1 peice maybe they can cut you a deal.

It just costs more to run a store. You can always haggle with them since we know what they really cost or ask for a discount if you buy more than one item. Just a thought. 😉

Thanks for all the advice! 🙂

Unfortunately, this store never has a sale unless they are discontinuing the line. And, they don’t quantity discount. They are very polite about it when you ask. But, they know they are the only store here that is carrying Windstones in this city.

Unfortunately, the prices I calculated, I’ve included shipping, tax and duty and it is still cheaper than the store. And, this store, if you order a piece in, you have to buy and pay for it upfront.

I might have to keep buying online. I think I’ll get shipping quotes from emerald and wolflodge.

I didn’t realize you were talking about Canada. Does the duty/taxes get passed onto the buyer seperately or is that reflected by the difference in price? (Sorry, I’m ignorant of international duties) I assumed the prices were USD?

That’s another factor. Canadian retailers will pay more than American ones to get the Windstones imported. That’s reflected in the prices. Forgot about that.

Taxes are usually added on after the base price, but some stores do include them up front on the Price Tag. And most of the stores around here that sell Windstones jack the price up, and don’t keep the boxes, so getting pieces like my Male’s Peacock Empror home is a royal pain!! There’s a reason we had to take the chance on waiting 2 weeks from finding it to buying it, we had to have 2 of us in the car!! 😯

Retailers do not pay taxes on their stock because it is charged to the customer in our GST & PST on the sale.
Well, the break down is this:

                        From Windstone Direct:

                        =$144 for the griffin
                        +$18.00 for the combined shipping
                        =$162.00 US
                        =$174.96 CAN
                        +$ 5.00 Duty Service Charge
                        +$ 10.49 Taxes & Duty
                        =$190.45

                        The Store:
                        =215.99 Griffin
                        + 12.95 Taxes and Duty
                        =228.94

While I appreciate that the store has the right to mark up, it just is hard to pay the extra. It starts to add up after awhile and means less spending money and less Windstones for my collection.

Yeah and there-in-by less money overall for Windstone! 🙁
