I just got a rainbow young dragon and he has some SERIOUS dust on him. I mean the kind of dust that stands up and makes a little dust forest. How can I get this dust off without messing up the paint? I’ve been trying q-tips with water but its not getting all the dust off. Anyone have any suggestions?
March 28, 2008 at 10:50 pm #494865March 28, 2008 at 10:52 pm #684342I used to use an OLD soft toothbrush on my pieces. I didn’t scrub them, just brushed them like I brush my teeth, gently but thoroughly. No soap, just warm water in the sink. Then I would towel them dry and let them sit for about ten minutes, maybe longer, while I cleaned the rest of my pieces. It got most of the dust out, even in the hard-to-reach places like where the tail is curled or the nooks between toes. You have to be careful with the rubies, though; for some reason their colors run. Hope that helps!

I think someone post about finger nail polish remover, but I’m not 100% on that.
March 28, 2008 at 11:25 pm #684344I’ve never had THAT much dust, but I normally just use water and cotton balls/swabs.
March 28, 2008 at 11:27 pm #684345I used canned air. Not sure if that would move mountains, though..
Good luck!

Nail polish remover is good at removing… the paint!! 😆 Please don’t use it to try and take dust off.

Nail polish remover is only if you want to take off the paint too! DO NOT USE NAIL POLISH REMOVER ON YOUR WINDSTONES!
Okay, done panicking now.

Don’t do that!…so even if you goof up on advice, someone will hopefully catch it before any damage is done, so don’t worry too much about it.

March 28, 2008 at 11:41 pm #684350Try the warm water over and over and over again, allowing plenty of drying time in between. Everytime, a bit of dust should come off. Eventually, your mountain should become a nice and flat desert 😀
I use the toothbrush and water thing, and I’ve even used a bottle brush to get to the dirt in my white male’s tail curve.

too bad he smells like cigarette smoke. I hate it when people don’t tell you about that in auctions. He is the second windstone I have that smells like an ash tray. There seems to be no way to get the smell out of these guys.March 29, 2008 at 12:43 am #684353Very beautiful!
I got one that smelled a little bit like smoke, and I’ve found that the smell fades over time. I think I read somewhere that gypsum is a porous stone, so all you have to do is let it breathe for a while??
Maybe I’m wrong. 🙂 But hopefully the smell will fade!
March 29, 2008 at 12:46 am #684354My emerald old warrior came to me drenched in cigarette smoke. He was so bad I smelled him before I opened the box. I would have been upset about it but I got a good deal on him. He still smells 6 months later but not as bad.
