One of our cats got out this morning. She will not come to me or my husband. Tried putting out food. Every time we go out there she just goes further away….She is obviously having fun in the brush…
April 27, 2009 at 12:33 pm #762286I use treats or canned food. Something they really like. I also shut the other cats in a room and leave the outside door open a crack so she can run back in.
April 27, 2009 at 1:54 pm #762287She came back, the little trouble maker! 😈
April 27, 2009 at 2:00 pm #762288*sighs with relief* There’s always one troublemaker in the bunch… 😆 Glad she’s home!

April 27, 2009 at 4:20 pm #762289Glad to hear it. Mine like to perch somewhere high on the carport and taunt us when they get out. 😀
April 27, 2009 at 6:54 pm #762290When I was growing up, or anyway sometime between the age of 9 and 15, our next door neighbours had a cat.
Every evening, just after dark, the mom would stand at the door, tapping a dinner bowl loudly and constantly with a spoon, whilst calling out the cat’s name.
Sometimes she would do this for twenty minutes before the cat would show up. If the cat didn’t show up after twenty minutes she would go back inside, then reemerge perhaps an hour later to do the same again.
This drove us nuts. For years this drove us nuts.
I swore that if ever I had a cat, it could come and go as it pleased. I would never stand on the porch pleading with a cat to come inside. So far, using this “I’m not the boss of you” approach, we’ve had a couple of house cats and a couple of adventurers. The house cats seemed to distrust the outdoors, so never went far or for long, whereas the adventurers only come home for food and love, so we only get to see them, like, 15 times a day.
On the other hand, Dogs. Oh, and horses. I once had to (literally) track down two of our horses when they wandered off. Even I knew that calling out their names and rattling a feed bucket wouldn’t help them find their way back home.
April 27, 2009 at 7:33 pm #762291I have mostly huskies. If one of them gets out I chasing them w/ the car or I may never see them again. Thankfully I’ve always manged to catch them. They love car rides and we always go fro a ride befor we go home. It’s the only weapon I’ve got and I’m not going to blow it because they’ll come to the car  and will ignore me. 😕 😀

Sun Dragon Koi #3April 27, 2009 at 11:43 pm #762292When our cats were indoor outdoor cats they were trained to come in by ten every night. All it took was keeping their favorite yummy on hand and they only got it if I hollered treat Which I did every night just before ten 😀 Worked like a charm

Grrrr! I hear ya on this one! Jake got loose one day and Scott went after him (This time) and after about 20 minutes and no Jake, no Scott, I took the GrandAm and went out and around about half a mile from my house, and BINGO! There is Jake just walking along peeing everywhere, and no Scott…I pull up by Jake, and call, he looks, and keeps on going! 😡 Guess the ride wasn’t as intriguing as the walk…I finally had to cut him off police style with the car when he went to cross the last street in town. 😮 He decided he was done, and walked over to the window. SNAG! Grabbed him by the collar and hooked his 8 ft leash on and trotted him back 2 blocks to where I found Scott. It was funny, but it was much easier walking a 130lb Rott-Shephard mix that way…Well, actually he sometimes takes me for a drag. XD
I’m sure he was thinking, “This woman NEVER gives up!”. Since I was the one who chased him for 2 hours in 10 degree weather at MIDNIGHT the last time he got loose. I wonder if he was a farm dog sometimes… 😕 -
