*phew* Okay, so I have a few minutes and since you are all like family you wanna know what got me so worked up on Monday?
*totally irrevalant to what the post is about, but I’d like to share*
So I got home from work and saw Sammy… or rather *heard* Sammy, my mothers little bitty yappy dog downstairs at my sister’s place. He has one of those unmistakable barks. So nobody is home though, weird. I go up to my apartment angry about HR not showing up for that meeting and getting myself all pumped up for nothing. So about 20 minutes to a half an hour pass. I’m alone in the house, and I can HEAR STOMPING up the stairs. Someone is coming to see me??? Shaun wasn’t due home from work for a few hours and NOBODY EVER VISITS ME! Too late to be UPS with a little something Windstone for me so who could it be? I hear a bang at the door and open it and it’s my sister all red faced! I’m like ” Oh my God! What’s wrong!?! ”
*flashback to me when I’m like 11 years old* My fater passed away when I was 5 and my sister and brothers were teenagers at that time. So now, like 6 years later, with no parents around we weren’t the best of kids. My mom had taken off with my dad’s life insurance money and she pops back in and out once in a while for weekends and takes off again. So my sister and brothers were basically drug dealers. (to put in plainly) Not big heavy stuff, but enough that a good amout of my family eventually saw jail time. So, one of my sister’s customers strolls in to buy something from her and he’s wearing an unmistakable ring on his finger. It was one of my father’s rings. A big gold one with 5 big diamonds in it. Nobody in the world could have had this same ring. It was an old heirloom. My sister says “WHERE THE HELL DID YOU GET THAT RING!?!?!” (none of us, not my sister, or brothers got ANYTHING of our dad’s. My mom hocked EVERYTHING!) So he says, “Your mom sold it to me for 5 grand, why?” So my sister explains that it was my dad’s an a precious heirloom to the family. He felt bad, and agreed if he EVER needed to sell it he would let her know first. So a few years passed. My sister and her husband got more and more into dealing and eventually, her husband sees the kid with the ring and buys it from him for double the money he paid for it and gave it to my sister as an anniversary present! How awesome right!
So now, none of us except her and her husband know the ring is back in the family. My sister, being the way she is, wants ALL of us kids, to have a piece of it. She got all the stones removed from the ring and made herself a ring, each of my brothers a ring, and me (being 14 at that time now) a set of diamond earrings. So these are made, with the intention of giving them to me on my 16th birthday. In the mean time, the heat is on. My sister’s house got raided by the police and with everything going on, my sister didn’t feel liek the earrings would be safe. She was afraid that they would be confisgated (which later that year they would have been, but that’s another story 😳 ) So she decides, she can’t give them to either of my brothers since they are in deep with “illegal activity” The only one I guess she thought she could trust was my mother. She gave them to HER for safe keeping. Thinking back, she says she doesn’t know WHAT she was thinking….
So now, my mom had them. The house DID end up getting raided, people and family went to jail and paid fines (all in the past now and everyone has paid their punishment so it’s all in the past, done and over with) My 16th birthday rolls around and my sister asks for the earrings. “What earrings? You never gace me any earrings?” my mom says! I guess a huge and apparently ledgendary fight ensued and since that day on my sister has hated my mother and they never really ever got along ever again. Not like a mother and daughter anyway, those days were over.
SO now! Flashback to Monday! I’m in the hall of my apartment and what does my sister pull out of her coat pocket! The earrings!!!! I never even SAW them or knew they EXISTED until I was in my 20s and I heard the stories while randomly talking with my sister after we moved in together. She says “Sorry they were 12 years too late”
She used our old key, knowing my mom wasn’t home since she had the dog and had gone away to Foxwoods for the week. When we moved, my mom had moved into OUR old house and never changed the locks. She went in and found them almost immediately. She was infuriated and decided to take them back. I don’t know what will happen down the road now when my mother finally realizes their missing…. but my sister just kept saying “they weren’t hers to begin with so I didn’t steal anything”
So that’s the story! I finally have a part of my dad’s history after all these years and now, have a piece of the moment when the my sister and brothers were all thinking of ME! I’m a bit estranged to the rest of them, they are all really close in age and I was a surprise WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY later… so I didn’t really ever have the close knit relationship with my father or with any of them, like I would have liked to. But…. a big gap in my heart feel like it was filled. I don’t know… it’s weird, but it was a good night full of memories. 🙂

EDIT: I must have missed the post just after the job issue regarding the earrings and just read it. OMG! 😮 Wow. I’m glad your sister found them and got them back, so they could go where they were meant to be, even if there was a ‘slight’ detour. Treasure them always :yes: (and thank your sister :wink:). *LOTS OF HUGS*
Well with our economy being the way it is, I am not surprised to hear about the massive lay off. It does seem a little unfair that it was just that department. Human Resources is a necessary important department in my mind. Hopefully that boss of yours stays cooled down and you get to talk with that elusive store manager.
Very touching story. Thank you for sharing. It is wonderful that you were able to receive such a precious gift.
WOW! A lot has been going on in your life–dealing with idiots at work and now this. I would have been blown away as well–filling in that gap after all these years! That would leave me speechless as well. I hope things work out for you at work and glad that you have a piece of your life back! We were just concerned because we didn’t hear anything and of course was thinking the worst!

Geez, that sucks about the HR thing, but at least he’s backed off for now. Still keep an eye on him though!

Sorry your job sucks so much right now…that does seem to be the norm everywhere…sigh.
But the story with your sister is great! It’s always nice to find a piece of the past and to realize that someone is thinking of you!

And as for the HR dep’t… whoa. That is strange that they’d lay off so many people! Especially in one department! The HR department, is one of the most important in a business… or else people like your boss will feel free to pick on the people under them for no reason at all! 😡

Thanks again so much everybody for the support. I really appreciate it!!! Especially since I know everyone else has huge problems they are dealing with as I can see in all the other Community threads going on right now… lay offs, divorce, and everything else. I guess this year is already a mess for a lot of people. I’m sorry to hear about everyone’s troubles even though I haven’t had much time to peruse all the other threads yet and leave comments.
We also just closed 3 store locations on top of the HR lay off. We had a “rumor control” meeting today to basically tell us all “we’re not in any trouble of loosing our jobs so we shouldn’t worry” and then later that they they sent our scheduler off with a severance package since they apparently made her job position obsolete as well in the transition. Not looking like a good year for anyone really… 🙁

As far as an update goes… he’s being REALLY nice to me today…. I wonder if he know’s I’m getting canned or somthing. Either that or he’s on some meds or something… illegal or prescription, I don’t know. Maybe he got laid.. ACK! *gag* Don’t wanna think about that!
It’s almost creepy how ubsurdly pleasant he’s acting. *shudder* I think I liked him better when he was mean. We need a happy medium here, maybe he’s bipolar or something??
I certainly never got to talk to anyone about it so I don’t know why he’s walking on eggshells around me. I guess I shouldn’t complain though.
