Great job, Arlla! He is lovely!
February 7, 2007 at 7:34 am #536597Hey!! Has anyone gotten any PYO griffins lately? Have you noticed that it looks like Melody added distinctive “eyebrow” feathers on the side that was missing them?? LOL we mentioned it to her in another thread and she actually carved them in!! (Just noticed while I was looking this guy over)

-J R R TolkienFebruary 7, 2007 at 7:44 am #536598Hmmm, I just got one, I’ll have to check. You know what I DID notice though. Some really weird round marks on the crown of the head. I took a picture, but I haven’t uploaded it yet. They are above each eyebrow. Anyone else get that?
Oh, and has anyone gotten any PYO dragons with like air pockets in the bellies? It’s really annoying. I tried filling ’em with paint, but you can still see them. I just got some clay and used that and it worked much better.

Yah, I got a few different PYOs in this last shipment that had air holes. They also came a bit discolored (not that that is an issue since they are painted over) and a place or two on them is on the rougher side.
February 7, 2007 at 7:59 am #536601No, I just figured if I could fix it myself I would. It just seems like airbubbles that pushed their way to the surface of the sculpt while drying. I’ve gotten like 3 with one little pinhole, but today i got one with 3 big ones. That’s when I used the clay.
Here’s the grifins head. I tried to make the pic big without it blurring so you can see them, the one on the right with the flash is more apparrent, but it’s the same griffin.

Dreamscape, Orion, Poison Dart, Fireberry, Spangler + Tigerberry DragonsFebruary 7, 2007 at 8:06 am #536602Hey. Thats a pretty griffin head. I have three new ones in a box at home. I will have to check on them and see if they have any abnormalities. I will be quite happy if the eyebrows got fixed. I always noticed that when I painted.
February 7, 2007 at 8:08 am #536603The latest dragon I did has a tiny bubble on it. I suspect the production stuff may have bubbles too, but unless you’re painting the piece, they’re too small to spot, really.
February 7, 2007 at 9:11 am #536604The dragon I just opened has a little air bubble on his belly. None of my griffins so far have had that weird circle thing on the head, though.

This was a problem Melody and I discovered when I did the first griffin for eBay way back when- it got to the factory and she realized that oops, only one eyeridge was detailed! She fixed a batch of griffins for me by hand because they were already cast and then carved the details right into the mold itself I believe. 🙂

My art: featherdust.comFebruary 7, 2007 at 2:44 pm #536607Oh, and if you guys get defective PYOs, just let Karen or Susie know and they’ll help you out (well, unless you want to fix them, I know some people enjoy that). Point being, these guys do not get as many ‘points’ of inspection as a production piece and sometimes flaws are missed (plus there is a bit of a rush to supply everyone!). I’m sure they’d happily exchange them if need be. The defective ones usually are culled and end up in the trash bin if they catch them before shipping! 🙂
Point being, you should always be happy about the condition of your piece and if you’re not, just contact them. 🙂
Also, Arlla, this griffin is GORGEOUS!
