I don’t really like this one at all. The brown eyes don’t go very well with the color scheme and the scales are too white. Price is def too high.
Ditto….
airbrushing is great and all but this one looks a bit dull to me….
and what about detail in the scales….
January 2, 2007 at 5:55 pm #522384LOL! You guys are making me not sorry I wont be able to get it! I think it looks wonderful but everthing you say is true. I still love it, though. I just really wish the color was on all the scales instead of just the butt, but besides that, and that its airbrushed… I like it.
January 2, 2007 at 5:57 pm #522385yeah I saw you say you wanted an airbrush…
I have one…..those things are a pain in the butt…and unless you’ve been doing it 100 yrs you can’t get the detail that good….
I’ll stick to brushes and doing weird ideas with them….

Yeah…I changed my mind. I really like the hand painted look better. I think an airbrush would be very handy for cool details, though…like stripes 😀

At least we love your weird ideas…air brush or no

yeah stipes….and a splotch…..
EWWW…
stupid thing…
January 2, 2007 at 6:25 pm #522389The airbrush would be good for a base coating and simple shading at least, and then do the fine details by hand. Of course, a good airbrush isn’t a cheap thing to buy and you’d almost have to make sure you would love to work with it to recover your investment. I for one am looking into it, but only because I’d also have alternate uses for it like for car painting or painting the gas tank of my hubby’s motorcycle. I worked with an airbrush once before and I did hate it…I need to do more research but there must be certain adjustments you can make to the nozzle to work on small sculpture. If not, the Windstones would be difficult to put a decent base coat on.
January 2, 2007 at 6:29 pm #522390my airbrush was expensive….still don’t know how to use it right…
blahJanuary 2, 2007 at 7:55 pm #522391I’ve had the day off from work so I’m just getting to the forums but Heather Tarr does nice work (but in my opinion does not rank in the top 5 horse statue painters) and I think her name is factored into the price. I don’t particularly care for zebra striping but if she were to put this on modelhorsesalespage.com she’ll sell it. It is still, after all an equine figure.
January 2, 2007 at 8:54 pm #522392I’m a disaster with an airbrush! I’m glad Windstone wants me to hand-paint my pieces with brushes, otherwise I’d be in trouble. But, that’s another reason I’m doing these by hand… even the folks at Windstone that have painted tens of thousands of pieces say that you can’t get the same sort of detail with an airbrush! 🙂

Of course it’s all in the eye of the beholder, but this one here is so plain I think the only reason they can ask $200 is because of the artist’s name attached. I bet drag0n could take the same color scheme and make him look much more appealing.
Well GB, obviously, this particular one is not worth $200 to you or me, but the artist must think someone will like it that much to price it so high…
All the better for her if it sells for that. Somehow I just think it’s rather cocky, even if Water says it’ll sell hands down.

Since I think a lot of our artists are a lot better, you won’t get any argument from me. 😀
January 4, 2007 at 9:30 pm #522395A lot of our artists rock! But I do hope we get outside artists to notice these more. I have gotten about 10 people already who are wanting PYOs now just because of seeing my postings on DA, so the word is getting out and it can only be good for Windstone all around. Lets hope that the pegasus PYO or Unicorn PYO will help garner in more of the Breyer horse painters.

I can’t wait for the PYO unicorn….
January 4, 2007 at 9:40 pm #522397I’m so doing a pinto unicorn…
But I’d love to see a hippocampus too. I think it would look awesome if it was rearing up like the Ki-Rin, except bent farther back with a wilder mane, and the tail curled around as support like shown in Melody’s drawings…maybe with an open mouth. -
