Well, now she does credit the wolves to Water, all in bright red. And it’s probably hard to Water to change her mind about the permission now. The auction doesn’t last much longer, and there’s no bid yet.
January 17, 2007 at 8:59 am #528502yeah, I was thinking of bidding on one of the auctions, too, but NOT ANYMORE!! What she’s doing is just not respectful at all. She’s really taking advantage of Water’s very generous gesture. But I’m glad she’s finally put up some notice that they are in fact Water’s paint jobs.

-J R R TolkienJanuary 17, 2007 at 10:39 am #528503The person running the auction replied to me in a polite, positive manner, but I don’t think the changes she made to her auctions are sufficient. I just checked eBay and it made me really upset to see all of Water’s work posted on somebody else’s auctions – Gallery pix and all. *sigh* I guess it’s really up to Water how this gets handled. All we can do is support her and each other. Hopefully this young lady will get the message eventually. Has anyone invited her to join the Forum? Maybe seeing it in black and white will help.
January 17, 2007 at 2:10 pm #528504I wonder if ddvm knows the dragon that they bid on is not the one pictured…
January 17, 2007 at 4:25 pm #528505She has made changes to the auctions she could…unfortunately since there have been bids she wasn’t able to alter a whole lot of the text or bump my name up to the top area since you can’t change stuff much after bids were placed, just added to. And I guess she couldn’t remove the images for this reason either.
As for the web site thing, I wasn’t aware of that and that will have to change. That’s going a little too far. She did write me back with a lot of apology for all this since she didn’t intend this is turn into this kind of affair. Apparently she hasn’t yet bought the sculpts…obviously, or she’d post photos of the unpainted ones she got, and will buy after the auctions close. I did tell her this was just a bad situation and a lot of people feel she is misrepresenting, and I think she sees that now but can’t change anything about it with EBay.
That, or maybe I really am too gullible when it comes to helping support other artists I am just too willing to accept these things and/or try to smooth things over too much. I did say in the future these should not be used again and she must use her own, and to be wary of bidders who are expecting that kind of paint job done on their piece…that they need to get what they pay for. I really do feel that she meant to do the right thing, but it just went all wrong. As an artist I can understand not wanting to invest in a product if it will not sell in the end. I fight these decisions every day…but I do take my loses and $30 is not a real loss. She should have painted one and then sold it on ebay and kept it as an example. In the future she’ll be doing this.
As for me, I will say that the auctions did get me at least one person who got interested in a commission because they saw I had my brown dragon up and likewise saw the others from CopperDragon’s auctions with my name thereon. So at least some good has come of this now that my name is spelled out right on the auction.
January 17, 2007 at 4:29 pm #528506Also, I did tell her about the forum and asked her to join up. She must be aware of it since the link to our PYOs is listed on the auction sites.
As for ddvm and other bidders…I just hope things don’t get out of hand. I don’t want to become part of something really bad if a bidder get screwed or something, but it’s also bad idea for me to contact that bidder since kinda it’s against ebay protocol and I’m not really sure I can actively do that anyway since I’m not a bidder on that. Unfortunately Ebay has a lot of rules to that end and she can’t make certain changes anymore to the auctions either this far in and with bids. I am photographing my unpainted PYOs so she can use those for her web site. I just don’t know what else to do from here.January 17, 2007 at 5:02 pm #528507It probably could have turned out worse, but it’s great the whole thing got at least one person interested in your work, Water. Thecopperdragon can count herself lucky she’s dealing with a generous soul like you and not somebody who goes to extremes.
January 17, 2007 at 5:30 pm #528508She can always pull the listing. At least your name is there, I just feel your pics should never have been there in the first place. Good for you, though! Im glad you at least got one commision out fo the deal!
January 17, 2007 at 6:58 pm #528509I agree she gave as much credit as she could in the auctions, it’s the website that bothers me. She abbreviates Waters name and basically just says they are copyrighted to WGW. It could easily be confused as someone who is affiliated with that website. I don’t know why she didn’t put the exact statement that she put on the auction listing on her website.

If not *shrugs* I’ll be interested to see what she does with the dragon. If I get it I’ll let people know how it turns out. Curiosity is one of my besetting sins. I’m sorry, Watergazer, when I bid I thought she had your permission – I read the post wrong. Please don’t hate me *grovels on the floor*
January 18, 2007 at 1:06 am #528511I don’t hate you DDVM, no worries! It was all just a weird misunderstanding that got screwed up but hopefully will get better now.
January 18, 2007 at 5:11 am #528512I like many people reconginzed Water’s pictures and then I saw it wasn’t Water selling them and was going to run over here and tell her. I do think it was wrong, but I am glad that something good did come out of it and that it is fixed. Hopefully she changes the website and knows now that she shouldn’t do that in the future.
