You can keep the poi, but I’ll take seconds on the pig….it’s delicious! 😆

If you visit the black sand beach(es), don’t take any sand or rocks as a souvenir….Hawaiian legend has it that Pele will curse you and I believe it!

Yes, I have heard that! I will not be taking any of that stuff… cause I do believe it too. I’ve seen shows on the travel channel about Hawaii, and how people are always sending back rocks and sand… cause bad stuff started happening to them! 😯You really believe in bad luck and curses and all that?

We’ll be crossing a big one off both our lists in May though, with a trip to Hawaii. I am very excited, and have some serious saving up to do! I’m hoping we can do Alaska next year. If we get a house though… that will probably need to wait a quite a while.quote]

I’m late on the Hawaii comments… but You’re going to LOVE it! I went when I was 16 and am going again in April… I’m soooo excited to be going back. It really is paradise.

What island are you going to?

We’ll be on Oahu. Not sure yet if we’ll visit another while we’re out there.

To a certain extent I guess. I personally never felt that I have been cursed or anything. But I would hate to test it, if I were to take something from somewhere that has a legend behind it.

Not only that, but it’s illegal to take stuff from certain beaches too.

I would not take it if it was illigal, thats for sure. I suppose I would not take it if it was cursed either… I dont believe in it, but why rist it for some sand, ya know? 😆 If I want a suveniere I will get a shell or something.

Yep, that’s the way I look at it.

I’ve always wanted to find a nice conch shell on the beach, or any other bigger pretty shell that is not broken. I’ve never had any such luck though. They’re either already found by someone else, or just smashed into a bunch of pieces. I guess the trick is getting to a beach like first thing in the morning, after the tide comes in.

Yeah, Poi is ground up taro root and it’s grey and looks absolutely gross. I never tried it. It smelled weird too. Kailua Pork (I think that is how it’s spelled) is Fabulous!!!!

Also, the high tourist beaches like Waikiki import their sand from California. Food for thought.
