I recently inherited a very large collection of Windstone pieces. I’d like to get some advice about what is retired and what is worth the time it takes to post on ebay. Any advice?

      Hello and welcome!

Astral Castle has a good encyclopedia of Windstone production pieces, which should be a great place to start!
      http://www.astralcastle.com/windstone/wsframe.htm

There may be some pieces (if they are newer, ebay, paint your own pieces, or limited production/grab bag pieces) that won’t be in that listing, but it will cover most of the production pieces. For any of those, Windstone may be able to assist if looking for information on ebay pieces (which also usually come with a COA). One of the MODs may be able to assist you in that. An ebay piece would likely be signed on the bottom (if not a repaint or paint your own) on the stamp. Some really old pieces don’t have felt pads though, just a stamp (these are really old and some of the very first pieces though).

Good luck and I hope this information helps! If you want to PM me feel free as well.

You might also want to read everything in our Frequently Asked Questions – here’s a link: http://windstoneeditions.com/frequently-asked-questions – we have advice in there about figuring out which figurines you have, a link to a tutorial on how to determine how much items are worth, as well as stuff about what they are made from and how its best to pack them up for shipping. Check it all out!

If you have trouble figuring out what something is you can always email a photo to service@windstoneeditions.com and we’ll help. We don’t figure out values though (we do not set values on our retired pieces), that will take some researching.

There is also a classified section here you can list your pieces in for offers. Lots of us on the forum are looking for certain pieces so you might be able to sell them here without the hassle and fees listing on ebay. http://windstoneeditions.com/classifieds Or feel free to message me or other people on here with a list of what you have as a lot of us have a good idea of what things sell for or what they are worth.

You could post mystery photos here too and someone should know what it is; one possible problem though is you may get lots of offers! You could offer pieces in the Classifieds forum here also, it’s free. You may also want to check out tutorials on packing Windstones for shipping, as they are terribly easy to damage. You are more likely to get bidders, and have them bid higher, if potential buyers feel confident that the piece will arrive to them safely. (one hint- double box with LOTS of bubblewrap and Styrofoam; paper as a packing material is a big NO).
Once you’ve figured out what you have, you can always search completed listings on eBay to see what that figure may have sold for recently.

Depending on where you & the collection are geographically, we have Windstone fans here on the boards from all over the world, many of whom might be happy to help you evaluate what you have in person, especially if you’re planning on selling. (Given your avatar pic, I can at least say there are several of us in both the Seattle and Portland areas who might be able to help. GO HAWKS!) 😉

Regarding ebay: most Windstones do at least hold their store value fairly well, assuming good condition. Retired colors may be valuable or not–depending on how long they were produced and whether it was limited production only from the factory, or the ones released to retail dealers, which are more common. Signed pieces can go up dramatically, only a little, or not at all in some cases, but generally speaking they do go up and sell pretty easily unless overpriced. As others have stated, packaging is CRITICAL if you’re shipping them out, or else any proceeds you make will end up needing to be refunded! Gypsum does not travel well unless certain precautions are followed; plenty of us have experience with this, so please don’t hesitate to ask.
