I went to the doctor a few weeks ago because I’m living in constant pain…they think either CPS or Fibromalasia…can’t spell it.
Long story short. They did blood work some I got then, and some today, my chlosetoral (sp) is way down only 205!!! whooo hooo for me!
but today they called and said my liver values are off and want me to come in for a ultrasound of my liver.
Now I’m wondering if my liver values can be off because I’m living on 1600mg of ibuprofen and lortabs every day, I also am on blood pressure meds, antidepressants and xanex. I don’t drink, don’t smoke and don’t do drugs.
I think it’s all the dang pain meds I’m living on.I am wondering if I am out of bounds by asking for a second blood test/opion? Like if I was to not take the 800mg ibuprofin 3x’s a day for a few weeks…
I’m just so sick of doctors! I guess I just don’t want to hear that I have something else wrong! It’s bad enough I have blood pressure issues and migranes.
So what would you do?July 23, 2008 at 11:55 pm #724800Checked quickly the monograph for Motrin, and they do list renal failure, but not liver problems.
However, when in doubt, do get a second opinion. It’s your health, and your right.
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

I think it’s all the dang pain meds I’m living on.Probably. Although the ibuprofen is not likely to be a problem to your liver, the Lortab (acetaminophen with hydrocodone) is a prime candidate. Fortunately you don’t drink; that would really not be a good combination.
If you can afford it, I would advise getting the ultrasound. If your liver is bad, you really shouldn’t be taking medications like Xanax or Lortab.
And if something is wrong with your liver, the sooner you and your doctor realise it, and adjust your daily regimen of drugs accordingly, the better.
July 28, 2008 at 8:46 pm #724805I agree with Dave.
You can always ask for a second opinion. Don’t be afraid to question doctors they are human and they make mistakes and don’t know everything.
My aunt was recently diaganosed with Sylliacs (spelling ?), a gluten intolerance, by her eye doctor. He suffers from it and recognized the symptoms. They have run hundreds of tests trying to determine why she’s been having health issues and they missed the Sylliacs.

Celiac disease or Celiac sprue. My wife and kids have it. No wheat, rye, or barley, and not popular brands of oats as they are grown in rotation with wheat and are usually contaminated.
Your aunt is lucky. Eye doctors are great – mine once told me to have my doctor to check my cholesterol. I did and it was astoundingly high.
There are some good support groups out on the net. My wife has a website, http://nowheat.com/ , where there is information and useful links.
And there is a “Celiac Disease On-Line Support Group” on Delphi.
(Sorry to hijack the thread, there.)

Thanks for the info. I’ll pass it on. I know she’s been researching it and is now on “the diet”. She’s feeling much better.Looking for Blue Fawn Baby Kirin

Sun Dragon Koi #3July 30, 2008 at 8:48 pm #724808high doses of Ibruprofin can mess with your liver enzymes thats why im not supposed to take it with my already existing liver troubles, That and high potassium foods are hard for your liver to break down and can cause inflamation.
I have to go on a liver med about once every two years because of enzyme lvls and swelling
