I have ALWAYS hated the hang tags just for this reason. I do not know if I need to to keep them in PERFECT condition or not. Windstone should make tag procectors like Ty used to do before they stopped making beenies.

The question is, was it ever issued with a hang tag? Were there any made in 2000, with hang tags, or was it retired when the last of an old batch (without hang tags) sold out?
The other problem is figuring out exactly when the hang tags were introduced. As mentioned earlier, we have reports of a copyright date of 1999, but I have seen a Peacock Spectral, which was first issued in 2000, that did not have a hang tag.

The value of a Windstone is at its highest the closer it is to how it was when it left the factory. A sculpture that left the factory before hang tags were introduced is not automatically worth less than a later one with a hang tag.
However, the hang tag does add something to some people. You can sell something on the strength of it having a hang tag, or you can sell something on the strength of it predating hang tags. Both of these can be advertised positively, but the “truth in advertising” notice that a sculpture has had its hang tag removed is at best a neutral thing; at worst a diminishment of the value of that sculpture.
The next question is, how hard is it to remove the evidence of a missing tag?

Haha, your absolutely correct in pointing out I didn’t answer the question. I first typed this thinking I read he asked about the peacock hatching emperor which I knew had a tag at some point, so I had to quick edit after I reread his first post 😳 But I thought it wasn’t worth deleting because it linked to an old thread about hang tags.

This is part of the reason when I add something to the Windstone database I maintain on my computer (similar to the one Ravnheart hosts online – should be though since I gave her the database that I had gotten from the forum member who originally started keeping it) I don’t take hang tags in to consideration when determining if a piece is “Mint” or not. Some pieces never had hang tags and then others had them added later. Since there’s no real way to tell I don’t factor it in.

It’s really up to the buyer if having a hang tag (or not) makes a piece worth more or less. I’ve never really noticed much of a difference in prices on eBay on pieces that have hang tags versus those that don’t. One thing that will ocassionally affect the price (especially on retired pieces) is if the seller still has the original factory packaging, but even then it isn’t always by mich.
January 9, 2008 at 12:19 am #654443Well one of my most valuable Windstones EVER does not have a hang tag and I KNOW for a fact thet it does not devalue my Brown Emperor one bit. In fact if anyone tries to sell you a Brown or Green Emperor (or any peice in these colors for that matter) except the Fledgie and curls of course w/o a tag you will know something is VERY wrong with the sale
January 9, 2008 at 6:26 am #654444I have all three of the emerald royal hatchers and none have hang tags. I bought them new just as the emerald color was retired. What a lucky find and right at Christmas time too! That was a good year.
Anyway no tags on mine.January 10, 2008 at 9:56 am #654445Dragon Master wrote:I have ALWAYS hated the hang tags just for this reason. I do not know if I need to to keep them in PERFECT condition or not. Windstone should make tag procectors like Ty used to do before they stopped making beenies.
You may be able to use some of the tag protectors on Windstones. I know the TY beanie babies had heart tags, but I have some hang tag protectors that are square and might fit 🙂 If you’re concerned about keeping the tags nice, I’ve found that setting the sculpture on top of the tag, with the black part against the table helps. The back gets scuffed a bit if you scoot the dragon around, but at least the BACK of the tag is “damaged” not the front, and it prevents the tag from being BENT or torn. 🙂
I can’t be much help on the tag debate-my Emperor was damaged when I got him, so I’m thinking his first owner might have pulled the tag off even if he had one. My Empress does, but I got her from Grandio right after the peacocks were retired, so she is “new”.
January 10, 2008 at 2:25 pm #654446I set my displays up in my cases with all the tags under the dragons I think. Sorry I’m at work now but that is how I remember doing it. Mine are ll behing glass or in their boxes still and I do not rmemeber everhavong a hang tag tragedy so I think I’m OK so far at least
January 10, 2008 at 5:18 pm #654447I bought my green hatching new in the box and it doesn’t have a tag so I don’t think they did. I have both the emerald and peacock sets and only the peacock hatching empress has a hang tag. Hope that helps you.

What Green??
The Green never had Royal hatchers and if you are talking about the original Green Hatchling he was retired many years before the hang tags where even thought ofJanuary 10, 2008 at 9:31 pm #654449The peacock hatching emperor that I had did have a tag that the original owners tore off. They left the string behind though.
