Hi Melody, I know you are retiring the orientals soon but have you ever considered a hatching oriental? You know, like how you had the hatching empress and emperor. The body wouldn’t be too bad because you could pick which parts, besides the head, that you wanted to show. Just a suggestion.

I’ve been told “NO MORE HATCHING THINGS”. They are a headache to cast because the egg shape must stay perfect, and when you cast them they can deform very easily.
Do Oriental dragons hatch? I read somewhere that Koi are really Oriental dragon larva. Kinda like mosquito wigglers. Cute.July 1, 2007 at 5:15 am #593696Deformed eggs could be leathery like snake eggs 😛 Then you could still do hatching things. I like hatching things. Need a Llama 😀
July 1, 2007 at 5:30 am #593697How about a curled oriental?
July 1, 2007 at 5:35 am #593698I like TC’s idea!

Yes, I can do an Oriental in a different position that is easier to cast. I want to do a PYO Oriental sitting up like a rabbit or something..
Random question for you ferret owners: Do ferrets sit on their hind legs up like weasels do? I’ve never seen one do that.July 1, 2007 at 6:19 am #593700Looking forward to the possibility of any more orientals!

Ive seen a few do that several times. My friend’s ferret, Sydney, he sits up all the time. And, when I was a vet tech, we had a handful of owners that would bring theirs in for annual check ups, etc (1 Im thinking of in particular was staying overnight for a surgery). Doing rounds, they would almost prop themselves up like Meerkats. The one in for surgery I remember well because as he was sitting on the table and I was fixing the lamp over head, he sat up on his hinds and held that position as if sunning himself. When my hand came down, he remained sitting up. I went to give him a treat and he clamped down on that fleshy area between your thumb and index finger :0 ! Dog bites hurt less! But he was a sweetie otherwise and this was an isolated incident.
But to answer you question, I dont know if it’s a rule of the species but yes, Ive seen them “sit pretty” or sit up on their haunches both down on their butts and fully raised & extended.
July 1, 2007 at 8:52 am #593703i think there are two different theories to them hatching…I have read that they start as eggs, like fish lay eggs. the eggs look like river stones, then they hatch as a Koi, and then they start there metamorphosis into a dragon over a 1,000 year long period.
but Some also say that certain oriental species have live young.

July 1, 2007 at 2:07 pm #593705One of mine did; she could actually hold the position for a few long seconds, and sniff away. The other ones would do it to grab on to our leg or arm. If we moved away, they’d fall forward.
They’d be sitting butt on the ground, hind legs spread out and front legs dangling.
Here’s a picture of a ferret typically looking into something up high:

I hope that’s the position you meant 😕
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

I host the feedback lists, which are maintained by drag0nfeathers.

And if you are considering doing anything with ferrets I guarantee I would buy it. I might even send cookies.
July 1, 2007 at 11:02 pm #593707Again being the odd duck out, I ask PLEASE not another standing thing! 🙁 That’s one reason I haven’t leaped into the PYO fray– I’ve got cats who think walking on shelves is an inalienable right, and anything that is tall and tippable WILL fall… not to mention living in Southern California where in terms of an earthquake, you’d prefer things with a nice wide base as opposed to the tall tippy thing. 🙁
The PYO Ki-Rin is lovely; but I can see it battered, chipped and destroyed if I did paint one.
And nope, I cannot justify throwing out all our shelves for glassed in ones. If there are to be no more hatching things (I was thinking a large MOP painted pearl with a dragon head or leg coming out myself, since pearls and Oriental Dragons seem ubiquitous -g-) then, if you’re taking requests, something with a nice large base bottom. 🙂
