Ok, just a warning, the topic might be gross for some people, but I need help. My insurance hasn’t gone through yet, so for right now I am stuck doing internet research on this.
I have heavy rectal bleeding which started yesterday. before that it was just a spot or two of blood on the tissue paper, but now the water turns a light red, and there is quite a bit of blood on the tissue paper. It’s scaring me right now. I have to get ready for work, but I need some help. Has anybody experienced this? Thanks!
August 7, 2007 at 2:08 pm #492219August 7, 2007 at 2:15 pm #606667Could be a hemmeroid, which are very common during pregnancy. I would use a mirror to look at your butt and see if you can see it. If not, it could be an internal one.
August 7, 2007 at 2:25 pm #606668It sounds like it could be a hemmeroid. If its bright red blood in the toilet then its from your lower intestine. Are you sure its from your rectum? My husband had the same thing with his hemmeroid, he would fill the toilet with blood but it never hurt him. If you use a mirror to look you might not see anything since some hemmeroids can be right inside your rectum and you wouldn’t be able to see it from the outside. If you are really worried about it go to the emergency room just to be on the safe side.
August 7, 2007 at 2:36 pm #606669Never had that happen but I agree it could be a hemorroid…although they tend to be more common in late pregnancy when the baby’s putting more pressure on everything, are you experiencing pain? Does your work or home activities involve any lifting of anything heavy?
August 7, 2007 at 4:05 pm #606670Hemorrhoid or possibly you could be bleeding from cracks in the rectum. You should still go in and have it checked, but it shouldn’t be anything that will affect the pregnancy. In the meantime, start drinking more fluids and lay down or at least put your feet up when you can.
August 7, 2007 at 5:58 pm #606671I’m concerned about the amount of blood she’s describing…can a hemorroid cause that much? I really don’t know myself, when I had problems with them throughout pregnancy they never involved blood…

From the way it sounded, it didnt sound like too much to me. Too much would be like a period. (Sorry guys!) π Turning the water a little pink is not alot of blood. Some on the paper is def normal. Hemmeroids can be caused by many things not relating to pregnancy, too, not just the weight of the baby or pushing during delivery. It can just be from pooping too hard. Bah… yucky topic π http://www.vitamin-supplement-reference.com/hemroids.html Some good info on the subject.
August 7, 2007 at 6:40 pm #606673Exactly what Ski said, and it can really be a side effect of not drinking enough (->getting constipated->pooping too hard). When you’re nauseous it’s easy to stop drinking along w/not eating. It’s tough to just carry around a water bottle and keep refilling it, but that’s really best. (And if you can stomach almonds & raisins, they’re good to carry around too.)
August 7, 2007 at 6:44 pm #606674ooh yeah, rasins def help ya poop. Where is Frozen? Poop is right up his alley…
August 7, 2007 at 6:47 pm #606675Ha ha, I was thinking of helping the w/the nausea, if you’re going to carry stuff around like the water…but might as well help ya poop too! π

August 7, 2007 at 11:15 pm #606678Thanks guys! I did get it checked out. I was REALLY worried this morning though, and my manager could tell, so she let me off early. Without going into any detail….The doctor took a blood sample from the area and sent it in to be tested. He also said that there was a rip in that area (which I think was caused by my constipation) and that was probably the cause of the bleeding. When he looked at it, he said there wasn’t a significant amount of blood, but last night and this morning there was quite a bit! I am hoping that means it is healing. I got a perscription for stool softner, and if it continues bleeding afre 2 weeks, I am instructed to go back and see him.
Sorry for voicing my icky medical concerns with you guys! I definitely need to try to carry around more water.
Thanks for being helpful! It means a lot to me! π
