Soda Springs is considered a ‘micro-climate’ it’s got it’s own self contained weather, plants that should grow at a higher elevation and the animals that go with it… yesterday the fox came and got a drink from the pond while the cats got ‘all poofy’ as the boys say, and danced sideways at it. He just ignored ’em and got is drink and left, but his coat is starting to change color as are the leaves up our back hill. Time to harvest the choke cherries for syrup and jelly and saskatoon berries (service berries) for jam. Apples are coming on quick… anyone wanna come help make apple sauce? Already got current jelly put up and Rhubarb for pie. Tomatoes never do well here; too cold and not long enough growing season. The farms are all harvesting wheat, red wheat, rye, oats, hops, flax seed, corn and potatoes are coming on fast. Cattle drives are starting as are the sheep roundups. I really do know now what ‘amber waves of grain’ look like and ‘purple mountains majesty’. I guess I live in the U.S. equivilent of ‘the bread basket’– a bit odd to have a rodeo riding competition starting at teh 8th grade and going through high school! Yup, I’m a transplanted city girl 😆 Come up and visit sometime!

Sounds alot like up here, and where I grew up, my SIL never had any luck with tomatoes either, until she accidentally planted them under her dryer vent, now they grow beautifully. Although she has a family of 5, 3 being teenagers now 😆 .

I’m afraid the cold would escape the box (I’m not that good at packing 😳 😆 😆 ) but and the family could move up here… Nice thing about here is even though it gets cold early there are LOTS of hotsprings here that are great for soaking in. Really pretty surrounded by snow… Lot’s of wide open spaces, not a lot of people, hunting and fishing if you’re into that and the archery and blackpowder clubs… Come on up. There’s a home for sale just down the street from us! 😀

i have tried to get PD to move out of this crap hole state for years…. but umbilical cords aren’t long enough 😕

Well, maybe it’ll stretch a little further if you bring her visits… You can come and go to the zoo with Kyrin and me and our broods on Sept. 17… It’ll be loads of fun!

Sounds like the area I live in! Know all about micro climates. Chinooks in the winter are wonderful things! Growing Season is pretty much over (hence the reason we canucks celebrate Thanksgiving in Oct) But the landscape is gorgeous. My dad has the same problem with tomatoes, even with the greenhouse. Though he has got 1 lonely vine ripened cherry tomatoe this year!

It was about 15C here today! I was so happy, there was a breeze, it was sunny… I loved it. Though snow would have made me happy… I remember tunneling in snowdrifts… 😀 I miss it!
