      Hello, everyone! 🙂

I’ve ran a few different searches in the forums, but nothing has really come up regarding my question. I apologize if it’s already been covered. Anyway, I have the “hand-held dragon sconce (right)” as shown here http://windstoneeditions.com/products/hand-held-dragon-sconce-right and I finally have a long-term place to hang it. However, I have tried a couple different methods of wall hooks, and nothing I’ve found seems to work well in terms of hiding the mount and keeping the sconce flat against the wall. Does anyone have any suggestions? What do y’all use to hang your sconces?

I have one I’m planning to mount when I get home today. He’s been lying in front of my TV while I figure out where to put him. I’ll let you know how it goes, but personally I have found that just using a large, properly anchored screw tends to give you a flat hold on the wall. You just have to adjust the amount that the screw extends so that it holds the sconce securely. I use this method for anything I mount on the walls, picture frames, paintings, decorative knives, etc. I’ve never done a sconce before, but I’m hoping it will work. Hope that helps 🙂 (and that I’m right :p)

Thanks for the recommendation. I suppose my biggest worry is that a screw may damage the inside of the hanging grove, but I just realized that I have some of that polymer coating stuff that helps prevent that. I may just have to give it a try, too! It seems that quite possibly I’m just over-thinking this all, but I’m afraid to damage the finish. 🙂

If you want to wait, I can post a couple of pics tonight once I’ve got it up. I figure putting a small piece of cloth, or possibly tape, on the screw head after it is installed would be enough to protect the finish.

The screw only idea seems to work quite well. I used a 2 inch wall mounting screw. I was going to use a 15 pound wall anchor, but turns out there was a stud right where I wanted to put him. The screw ended up sticking out of the wall about 2/3rd’s of an inch.

Yes I know it’s angling down. That was my fault because I decided not to stand on a chair, so I was holding the screw driver above my head instead of straight on. It is perfectly stable, so see no point in fixing it.

The hold against the wall is nice and tight.

And he looks so happy to not be lying around anymore. Kind of dusty though. 🙂

Edit: If you are worried about the finish make sure you cover the screw groves with something (tape, cloth, etc.) I took him down off the wall to dust and can see small scratches in the black paint where his weight was resting.

I have a mermaid sconce and used the same method as dandrusky13.

I’m worried about drywall and screws falling out, so I went to Home Depot and purchased a 50lb drywall insert/screw set (orange package). I put mine in parallel to the floor (no angles) and left about 1/4-1/2 inch of the screw out. It has been great (and flush with the wall) for over 5 years now.

Since the threads are open to the sconce finish there is some digging in (due to the weight) and it has caused some white gypsum to show through. I consider it a non-issue, since it not seen and is not excessive.

                  Hope this helps.
