Does anyone know what year hang tags were added to windstones?
I’m doing a catalouge/list thing of all my windstones and have a few that I bought prior to the addition of hang tags and would like to date them appropriately

June 26, 2007 at 8:05 pm #592561Dunno! I’m gonna move this to the “Ask Melody” section to see if they know at the Factory.

My art: featherdust.comJune 29, 2007 at 9:38 pm #592562Good question…
The only pieces I have with hang tags are my curlie, OG fledge, and emerald lap (which was purchased off eBay about 1 1/2 years ago; I don’t know its production date). The prototype OW doesn’t have one. All my other pieces (all OG or emerald) were purchased new, most roughly ’94-’95 or earlier, and never had them, or 1 was an eBay purchase (the mama coil) which didn’t have sign of one.
My mom’s emerald Sun Oriental was also purchased new, and didn’t come with one.
So apparently tags came out after OG was retired or close to its retirement, and also after the introduction of emerald (and scratchers, hatching royalty, male coils and Sun dragons). Unless the stores removed them…
Are there any colors which ALWAYS have tags? Besides the newest, of course. Maybe that could help narrow it.June 29, 2007 at 9:58 pm #592563foxfeather wrote:Does anyone know what year hang tags were added to windstones?

My Peacock Scratcher, Peacock Hatching Empress, Peacock Fledgie, and Peacock Orientals had no hang tags. None on my Black Griffin, the Dinosaurs, white hatching dragon, white coiled mother or peacock coiled male….
I know I bought the Peacock hatching empress or the fledgie sometime around 1997 or 1998, because I had to fly back early from Chicago to New Orleans because of Hurricaine George and I bought one of the two as a souvenir.
The older stuff with no hang tags used to always be packed in styrofoam too.
Hope that helps.
July 30, 2007 at 7:11 pm #592567I just asked again, and the answer is … nobody knows. They are guessing ’89, but I think it was long after that. We started using the pads around ’89.
We got the idea for the tags when we did the Hatching Tortoise and the baby Kirin, because we included little cards with them. Those info. cards always got lost in the stores, so we thought it would be cool to attach something descriptive to the sculpture … so it was a while after the baby Kirin first came out, whenever that was…ah…here is a baby kirin. It’s date is ’92.
Oh yes!… and the old Prototype Warriors did not have them, that puts it after ’97.July 30, 2007 at 7:23 pm #592568Ok, an update.. Jeff (the manager at Windstone) has just now done some hunting through the records, and the first copyright date for the hangtags was 2000! My gosh! A REAL answer!!
July 30, 2007 at 7:51 pm #592569Yay!! Thank you!!!

I knew it was before we started carrying Windstones, but I’d not realised that you’d only recently started doing them (we signed up in September 2000). Thanks for the info – I’m adding a couple of new paragraphs to our Encyclopedia…
July 30, 2007 at 10:36 pm #592571well, not to upset the apple cart melody, but i have three pieces with a copyright date on the hangtag that are dated 1999. one is a panther gargoyle, another the male kirin and the other was a hatching empress. i bought the panther in the store myself still sealed in a box, so i know it came on him originally..the tag on the gargoyle was labeled as a gargoyle with the story behind them inside, but my newer ones have a 2000 date. hopefully that helps. 🙂 the pena logo/signature on the front was silvery instead of golden too.
July 30, 2007 at 11:37 pm #592572The hang tags on the old warriors are also 1999 and have the silver writing.
