So today, I went to Hallmark and bought a couple of their keepsake ornaments b/c I got a coupon to get a freebie if I did. Well, they had this really cute goldfinch one that was part of a series (#4). So I said to myself, I’ll just go home, get on ebay, and buy the rest too, and that will just be the cutest thing ever, right?
Wrong. o_O; Hallmark Keepsake ornament collecting is possibly a more brutal world than collecting Windstones! XD I don’t think I could get the first one (a cardinal) for less than $180 right now! The second one either (a chickadee).
I’m hoping the price will go down after Christmas…9_9;
Anyone else collect these?
November 11, 2008 at 9:47 pm #497012November 11, 2008 at 10:11 pm #739947My mother gets my siblings and I each one every year for Christmas. I have C3PO, R2D2, Darth Vader, two or three Lukes, don’t remember, a Ford F-150, Harry Potter chasing the snitch, a wolf family and…heck, probably two or three more I don’t immediately recall.
I didn’t realize there was such a market for them!

Yeah, me either. @_@; They had a lot of nice ones this year. They had a number of Star Wars ones! Some spaceship, a Death Star…and a couple of others…
The other one I thought was cute was a scene from “Where the Wild Things Are”. It was the main monster, Black Moishe, bowing to the little kid when he’s dressed up as king. XD
November 11, 2008 at 10:29 pm #739949I worked at our hallmark in the mall for a little while.. I was there on the weekend of the new ornament release part.. that was horrible.. the people out there to buy them was scary..
they act insane.. it’s like those commercials they show about those people buying their kids new toys and they all fight over that last one…
I’m so glad I don’t work there anymore.. it will just get worse closer to christmas
November 11, 2008 at 10:31 pm #739950I have a couple of the Star Wars ones from back in 97 & 98 . I have the X-wing that lights up , the Darth Vader that lights up and talks and a Luke one that is just well sissy Luke 😛 .
they are all in the 25 dollar range now, i think they cost around 15 eachMy stepfather has a USS Enterprise one that is worth a mint 250 bucks it has the little shuttle craft hanging from it , it was also 15 bucks at the time back in 1997 .
I still look for some of the star wars ones i dont have but on ebay people want a lot more than they are listed for in the collectors guides
November 11, 2008 at 11:08 pm #739951I have a couple of Hallmark series that I collect. I always get the new Star Trek and Star Wars ships. Also, I’ve managed to get all of the Frosty Friends. 😉
November 12, 2008 at 12:21 am #739952You don’t wanna know… I have 3 50-gallon totes in the basement that are full… My dad worked at Hallmark when I was young, and he started the addiction… I have some of the original Peanuts glass balls…

Well, I usually end up with either Star Wars or Harry Potter from mum, unless I go with her to pick mine out. So I guess it’ll be another star wars one this year!

I can’t really talk. XD I have a big tub of My Little Ponies, and a big tub of Beanie Babies down in the basement. I feel kind of bad for them, since I don’t display them, but…at the same time, I don’t want to let go. >___>;

PD has every year from start till 2000 of beanies ( she got “the end bear” which was kind of a lie :S . She used to spend a ton of money on those things and stand in line when a new one came out . She doesn’t have the really huge ones but all the others she has , even has the Beanie fan club bear with the tote and all . I thought she was gonna stroke when i gave the baby my baby frog beanie to play with 😛

My art: featherdust.comNovember 12, 2008 at 3:21 am #739957I think I have the Chickadee one. I remember getting one last year. I think that was it. I won’t know for sure until I go through my Christmas ornament box. I guess I’d better get this year’s!
November 12, 2008 at 3:29 am #739958hmm.. if I still worked there.. I could have gotten everyone discounts.. LOL..
oh well
November 12, 2008 at 4:23 am #739959I have the Lion King ones that came out years ago when the movie came out. It was four different ones, including one that played music. Well, it was supposed to play music… it didn’t play right… sounds like a garbled electronic mess instead of ‘Circle of Life’. It was actually recalled because of the defect. I kept it anyways. It still lights up fine and looks cool. I just don’t bother to push the song button 🙂 ). I also have a few others – Meeko, Flit and the Pug from Pocahantas, and a few oddball ones I got from my grandmother (I bought them for her when I was little, then inherited them when she passed away).
I have a bunch of Beanie Babies and a few of the Buddies. I have all of the original cats (Flip, Chip, etc.). I also have a bunch of Puffkins.
Another ornament group that can be pricey is Precious Moments. I’m trying to get all of the 12 days of christmas ones for my mom. I just have to be patient I supposed.
