Just a warning guys, this is a spoof email that is circulating right now. This one is especially tricky because it’s from an ebay email address and looks totally official. The thing is that if you do what they ask and go to ebay though the email, and change your passwords, the scammer will get your password and then there will be fraudulent activity on your account, and then you’ll still think that the email was legit in it’s warning because now there is activity on your account.
If you log into your ebay account (though ebay.com, not your email!) you should see a message there IF there really is a problem with your account.About 98% of scammers and hackers get your personal info (passwords, etc) when you unknowingly give it to them through fake sites and emails.
Here’s the scam email:
Quote:Dear eBay Community Member,
Due to recent activity, including possible unauthorized listings, we have temporarily suspended activity on your account in order to allow us to investigate this matter further. If you believe that this action may have been taken in error, or, if you feel that your account may have been tampered with, please contact our Live Help team so that we can provide additional information and work with you to resolve this issue.

Please allow at least 72 hours for an email reply. Emailing us prior to receiving our reply will result in an additional delay. In order to handle your concern as quickly and efficiently as possible, we encourage you to contact us through Live Help if you are able to do so.
If you received this notice and you are not the authorized account holder, please be aware that it is in violation of eBay policy to represent oneself as another eBay user. Such a citation may also be in violation of local, national, and/or international law. eBay is committed to assist law enforcement with any inquiries related to attempts to misappropriate personal information with the intent to commit fraud or theft. Information will be provided at the request of law enforcement agencies to ensure that perpetrators are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

My art: featherdust.comAugust 14, 2007 at 4:12 pm #607471Whenever I see something that looks like a warning email from eBay or PayPal I always go to those sites first to see if there is the same message on my accounts there. If there isn’t I forward it to the spoof email address, block the email address it came from and delete the email.
