It looks like they finally got around to finishing the last piece of the move/renovation last night at the data center, which was to remove the power bridge from the basement to the 9th floor. This means we are 100% moved into the new area and should not have to experience anymore outage time on behalf of the facility (only our own failures and scheduled maintenance now).
The bad news is I was not notified. At 3:30 this morning I was woken up to messages from my UPS’s crying out then dying, taking the servers down hard with them.
These sorts of things make me cry very much because they are what cause equipment failure and data loss, and you all know I just bought this machine.
It looks like power came back around 5:10, but networks were restored around 6:30 since I have no traffic until then.
I do apologize for the interruption, and believe me I am going to raise a lot of hell for not being told about it. I would have dragged down extra batteries and shut off all the non-essential power draining equipment to keep the server online.
January 27, 2007 at 3:31 pm #533101Get em Snap! The disruption didnt last too long on my end. Not even an hour, I dont think… Not that I sit here hitting refresh all afternoon… π I hope you get everything straightened out.

Owch! Yeah, I’d have a hard word or three with them, I know how hard that is on machines. When we get a power failure here I have to run around like a headless chicken powering everything down upstairs and in the basement where our two (small personal) servers are humming away, while the UPSs beep.
By the way for some reason the beep on those things is of a tonality that hits just right with my cockatiels and it makes them scream their brains out, so they are my extra alarms! πGood luck, I hope everything is okay even with the power loss. I’ve had a HD head crash after a nasty power spike (and before I invested in battery backup…).
