You still need to be cautious with fiberboard/particleboard shelving as it tends to bow easier than “true” wood shelves. If you see the shelf start to sag, turn it over so it will straighten back out.
June 10, 2010 at 3:24 pm #817311Okay! Thanks for the warning!:) I love my Windstones and I will weigh them before I put them on the shelves to make sure they`re far from overloaded
June 11, 2010 at 1:09 am #817312I have found all my cabinets at curio, antique shops, or gift shops that were going out of business. I have 11 altogether and they will hold a lot of weight. I have 3/4″ glass untempered because it is much less expensive and tempering was unneeded. I have 425+ Windstones and everything except the ones which are on the wall are in the cabinets. One shop was retiring, a gift shop with about 40 cabinets. They all had glass doors and sides, lights, locks, and wheels. I got 6 from them and would have gotten more except I ran out of both money and space. I really recommend checking out shops like those that are selling their cabinets that would suit you. I have a shelf full of emperors and they are very heavy, and I haven’t had any problems with any of the shelves. I also keep a balance of heavy ones on the sides and lighter ones in the middle if I am mixing them. Hope this helps
June 11, 2010 at 5:34 pm #817313In time I’d like to find a cabinet for my Windsones–love the glass ones but I too worry about the weight issue. The tips you gave, drgnlvr, are appreciated. I just need to make some space for them!
June 11, 2010 at 6:46 pm #817314I have one of the “cheap” glass shelves from Ikea. Its TOTALLY glass except for the flimsy metal supports. I put other heavy items on it over night and no problem. I dont know what the weight limit of the shelves are so Ive been limiting it to 1 big piece (Ive got my emerald riser on one shelf and some other misc collectibles on the shelf to fill the space but not necessarily add much weight) or two smaller pieces. Ive got 1 big flap cat and all my little ones on another shelf. It sways when I walk next to it since Im on the second floor, but it hasnt broken in more than 2 years Ive had it.
July 1, 2010 at 2:56 am #817315I was told years ago by one of my co-workers that Ikea is OK for college studnets for about 4-5 years but will fall apart soon after that I have never bought from them but just what I have heard

I believe the cheapest glass cabinets Ikea offer (at this point at least) will hold upto 6 and 7 kg. I don`t know if I want to take the risk putting my Windstones on the glasss shelves in the cheap glass cabinet I allready own. Those glass shelves will only hold upto 6.
July 8, 2010 at 4:53 am #817317One day when I learn how to post pics on my own I will have to take pics of my cabineets. With the height of my Emperor army I did not use one of the shelves they gave to me so I have 2 extra one for each cabnit
I LOVE my cabintes, I can honestly say they are pretty inside and out
The only problem is I now need at least 1 more and the store I get them from (Levitz)has gone out of business and I will never find a match so eventually if I get a bigger place I will need to get 2 more that will compliment these 2
I’m pretty sure I could fill them both up right now too with how many Windstones I have in boxes nowJuly 9, 2010 at 2:55 pm #817318Sorry to hear that the store has gone out of business… Does each cabinet take a lot of weight as well?

I’m not sure what you mean?

I think she meant: Can each shelf in the cabinet hold a lot of weight?
