Over the years, I’ve had older Windstones that were duller than their counterparts, maybe with age, or maybe they were cleaned with something harsh, I don’t know… And I’ve always wondered if I could give them a new glossy clear coat.
In the end I never took the chance and sold them as they were, but I’d like to know if anyone has ever tried it?
July 4, 2013 at 1:34 pm #899430I think that the clear coat of the older pieces might have been more matte or satin, and that the newers ones have a glossier finish.
I wouldn’t give them a new one because to me, that difference in finish is part of their charm.
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

For example, to name one with little color variation, I’ve had several emeralds over the years, and while most have always been nice and shiny, I’ve had a Male that had a finish that was really dull in comparison.
July 7, 2013 at 4:15 pm #899534I have done this before on some repairs and have had no issues. You need to get every speck of dust off of your existing piece though before hand for obvious reasons. I would first test an inconspicous area first though to be sure you don’t cause any crazing or other issues.

I have some hatching dragons where the clear coat on the egg is obviously wearing off and I am wondering what type of coating should be used to replace what has come off.

I tend to gravitate towards aresol can sprays vs brush ons.
