Thats horrible but I can see why windstone would have to do something if someone complained. Where they really rude about it to make you cry? You could always just sell the broken pieces you have for some extra money. It won’t get you as much as a repaired piece but at least it would be something.
June 8, 2007 at 10:21 pm #587188That’s terrible PurpleCat I hate to hear that you do such beautiful work I can’t imagine why anyone would complain. But I sure am glad I got the pinks before you had to stop. Thanks again they are gorgeous
June 8, 2007 at 11:21 pm #587189The only problem I could see with the earth dragon was the coloring was similiar to the Rainbows, but not enough to fool a collector. Besides which I can’t understand why someone would have complained to Windstone and not to you directly.
I understand Windstone has to protect it’s creations, so to speak, but most of your re-paints in my opinion were beautiful and very much different from an production or limited items. You made it clear that they were repaints. What a bummer. 🙁
As someone mentioned you could sell the pieces to others for repair, but that would be so they could fix them and repaint them, right?! So, will fixing any broken pieces will be discouraged as well?
Just remember Purple, we’re here for you. 🙂
June 9, 2007 at 12:04 am #587190They told me the earth dragon wasn’t original and I busted my butt to make him so, sniff….
June 9, 2007 at 12:08 am #587191im so sorry to hear that 🙁 i will defenetly cherish my repaint now..you do such awesome work..im going to miss it
June 9, 2007 at 12:17 am #587192What if you asked John if once a week or once a month you could send him pictures of the ones you’ve repaired and he would have veto over whether or not they are ok? I’m not trying to make waves because I totally understand Windstones position in this (I think their making the PYOs was great and I know this has been an issue) and I’m not trying to make more work for John (hence the once a time period thing) but I’d hate to see Windstones that could be saved end up in the trash. Plus your work is beautiful – I’d love to see more.
If not you could always concentrate on the PYOs. I would absolutely buy a PYO dragon or unicorn from you. *cross my heart* Would you work on commission? I know other people include the cost of the PYO in their price so you wouldn’t be out any money.
*sends hugs and good feelings*
June 9, 2007 at 12:19 am #587193🙁 Very sorry to hear this because I loved looking at your paint jobs, and I love your unicorn PYO I got. You have real talent!
And you made it quite clear in your auctions too. I’d like to slap that complainer. 👿
June 9, 2007 at 12:22 am #587194No. He said it’s not the colors or the patterns, it’s simply my style that’s a big no. I’ll be doing pyo’s on a fairly regular basis cause, well, I love dragons and I like to airbrush, I’ve sunk a fortune in paints and supplies and it would be idiocy not to at least get to use it. 😥

Oh, sorry 😳 I thought it might be worth a try. But I do look forward to seeing more of your PYOs.
June 9, 2007 at 1:48 am #587196I agree! Don’t give up painting! Your PYOs are gorgeous! 🙂 I’d love to get an airbrush lesson from you! I have access to automotive paints 😈
Also, do see if anyone would be open to buying any of the broken windstones you wouldn’t want to keep? I’m sure there are people who would love to try and rebuild one, or try to match a paint job or something.
June 9, 2007 at 1:59 am #587197How is it your style thats a problem? I don’t understand. If you do end up having to part with some of your broken dragons I would be interested in buying some.

I can see that, but damn, it still sucks. I really loved seeing what you did with your fixit projects.
*sigh* Someone always has to find a way to ruin it for the rest of us, why is that?

June 9, 2007 at 2:03 am #587199I’ll be keeping the brokens I’ve got. I figure I’ll repaint them and keep them…I’m working on an earth scratcher for myself now…I can’t really afford to collect windstones without the $$ from repaints although pyo’s may help with that…If I decide to sell any of my brokens I’ll post in the flea market. Thanks everyone!
June 9, 2007 at 2:23 am #587200I’m very sorry that you got shut down. I really wanted that Earth Dragon Male we talked about. Darn! Don’t quit altogether though. Keep working on PYOs.
June 9, 2007 at 2:37 am #587201purplecat wrote:It upsets me horribly because I only work with damaged or broken pieces…the fact that they’d rather have them broken and possibly in the garbage than painted by me is what hurts…I love all the possibilities sitting there in a sculpt waiting for the airbrush. Seeing a broken piece made whole again and in a special color so it can be re-enjoyed all over again….I’m still in tears…
It isn’t that they’d rather have them broken. It honestly isn’t. I know that if it were just up to Melody she’d be happy to let repaints happen.
But legally speaking they can’t make exceptions. If it can be confused with a regular production paint job, then they have to discourage it. Your paint jobs were lovely, but they used the same methods, and the same look as the regular production pieces did, and if they let you get away with that, they legally they lose the ability to go after other people who are deliberately copying Windstone’s style.
We’ve been told over and over that if it can be confused with a factory made piece, it’s not allowed, and your paints jobs looked just like Melody’s.
Maybe you should get out a paint brush rather than an airbrush? Hand painting is pretty easy to pick up, and it’d change your style enough to remove the confusion. And your main still really seems, to me, to be with color combinations. Surely you could do something without the airbrush that would still look good?
