Observant. That’s the word I was looking for. Talk in German all afternoon and don’t know my English anymore… lol 😆
German intrigues me because some words are so close to English but others are miles off.
I am (supposedly) half German and half Ukrainian, although I was raised on the Ukrainian side. My ex-gf is Romanian, and I learned part of that language, but I struggle so hard with it.
I can handle most French given a few minutes to look at it.
*mumbles something about paying extra to be funny and no one noticed….well at least some people did.

Depending on your German, Snap, half of it can be English. The slangy German Schwörerdeutsch uses a lot of English and warps the meaning. (Shut up means stop, for example.) And a lot of swiss kids have taken to inserting American words in order to sound cool. The original Swiss is nothing like English or High German, though.
And then a movie like Beerfest comes along and sets the bar back about 1000 years.
I have to tell you though GB, you are very well versed in language for being in your “last teenage year’. When I was in high school I wish I had someone of your intelligence level to hang out with. I harassed the teachers until they got sick of me and told me to go play with “my own age”.
😆 Thank you kindly, Snapdragon. Of course I oughta be well versed in German. I’ve only been living here 12 years. My best friend at school is a Northern German. I like to jab at her how Swiss is so much cooler than High German. 🙂 (The difference is even more extreme than Brit and American.) And I researched Schwörerdeutsch for my writing…
