I was at work today and of course its one of those 102 degree days where I just don’t want to go outside. We had two calls early in the morning and while cleaning the medic unit up after one of them I started to have heart palpitations and tried to take my own pulse. I coldn’t count it so I put myself on the pulse ox that gives you a reading of your heart rate and mine said 140. I didn’t feel like going into the hospital and floping down on a stretcher so I just ignored it and went on about my day. Well later on I had the same feeling and again took my pulse, this time it was only 123 but I knew it was too high. I had my husband call my ob doctor since its long distance from my work and they wanted me to go to the er right away. I told my partner that I was having a fast heart rate and the next thing I know he has me on a heart monitor, called for another medic unit, and is trying to start an iv on me. I’m yelling at him saying he is getting too carried away and I don’t want an iv but he stuck me anyway and I was taken to the er. Turns out I was dehydrated and didn’t know it. Every time I would stand up my heart rate would jump into the 130’s so they kept me for observation and made me drink lots of fluids till my rate went down. My husband met me at the hospital and I told him it was all his fault that I was there. So now I’m all mad because I missed half a day of work and had to be taken into the hospital by ambulance (I work with these guys so they will never let me live it down).

Well, at least it was nothing more serious. I hope you’re feeling better now. You need to take care of yourself.

Oh, glad you are ok. Don’t be mad, it is better for them to check you out espically since you are pregnant.

Here I’ve been lecturing eaglefeathers on drinking enough! Seriously, carry around a bottle of water or large cup and refill constantly! On another note, some women (like my sister) have to be careful during pregnancy because their pulse skyrockets when it normally wouldn’t, and you need to not push that (said with love & concern).

Of course they won’t let you live down the ambulance ride! They’re guys. You know they were just waiting for that moment! If only guys really could get pregnant… 🙂 😈

My partner was all happy about getting to stick me with a needle. He’s old school and doesn’t wear gloves (you didn’t hear that from me) so I was yelling at him to put some on while he was sticking me. When the other medic unit got there the paramedic was fighting with my partner because he wanted to stick me with and iv. I used to work in the er they took me too so all the nurses and doctors were like “omg what did you do”. So no only did I have all the people from the er going in and out of my room wanting to know what happened but all the medics that came in with patients were going in my room asking what was wrong. It was like grand central station. I was surprised my husband was able to make it to the hospital since he is still on home iv antibiotics and the hospital is 30 minutes away from our house. I’m gonna take my jug o water with me tomorrow since its supposed to be really hot again. At least I’ll know if I feel my heart racing that I haven’t had enough fluids and to drink more.

Egads! Lady, get yourself a nice big waterjug and carry it whereever you go, and remember to drink out of it frequently!

I know drinking water is the last thing you think of, but you know better, you are a trained medic! Bad girl! No Windstones!

If you are good and remember to drink your water, I may let you have another Windstone soon, but you have to be good!

*I hope you know I am teasing, but I do mean it about drinking more water. Please don’t do anything to put you or the baby at risk, you’ve gone through way to much to have it all fall apart now.*

            Lots of hugs!

Oh no, no windstones! 😯 Lol, I thought I was drinking enough water but it turns out I wasn’t. I have a water jug I’m bringing with me to work today. When I go out on calls I’m going to get a 16oz of water from the hospital every time I go there and drink it. My jug won’t fit on the medic unit. It’s only 5 am and my husband is already giving me grief about how I better drink more water today 🙄

He’s right! 😀 Stay healthy. Glad it wasn’t anything more detrimental.
