Well I really don’t know if everyone would consider this fun. I had to work night shift last night and I knew it was going to be bad. The night before I was up all night and we ran 6 calls so I just knew that a Friday night would be just as bad. I was right! By 10pm we had already run 5 calls and it didn’t look like things were gonna slow up.

Around 1am we got a call for an assault behind one of the local bars. The cops were already there and had one guy under arrest and another guy was rolling around in the grass with his face all beat up and blood everywhere. Now mind you this dude was big and I couldn’t imagine anyone being able to kick his butt but he was so drunk I guess they got the upper hand. So we take this guy to the hospital and hes all happy in the back talking to my partner (he won’t let me ride in the back with drunk patients).

We get to the hospital about the same time as two other medic units and we all have drunk patients. The er was busy so I had to put our man in the hallway but he was still on our stretcher. I’m standing there talking to my partner when all of the sudden the guy leaps off the end of the stretcher and stands there eyeing us up. I run and hide behing my partner because he is a big guy and I’m a chicken poop because I’m pregnant and don’t want to get in this drunk mans way. Well my partner tells him to get back on the stretcher to which our drunk patient curses at him.

Now I’m gone like a puff of smoke because I saw him advance on my partner. While I’m hiding behind the triage desk about to watch my partner get beat down this cop comes running over and gets right in the drunk mans face. Well he gets decked right on the chin and falls at me feet. Now I’m pinned between the triage desk and this pissed off cop who is laying on the floor and our big burly drunken patient is about to pounce on this cop like a cat on a mouse. I’m trying to grab the cop and pull him into a triage room when all of the paramedics leap ontop of the drunk man and bring him to the ground.

The cop gets up off the floor and starts to hit the guy with his batton to stop him from fighting then finally gets some handcuffs on him. All I kept saying to my partner was thank god that guy didn’t go nuts in the back of our medic unit because there is no way I would have been able to stop him from beating up my partner. So that was my fun night. I went home and told my husband about it and of course he is all mad at me because I refuse to go on light duty.

Sounds like there was never a dull moment last night I am glad you weren’t injured.

Dang, purpledoggy! Thank goodness you weren’t hurt, not to mention your baby! Do take care.

Wow! That’s a wild night! I didn’t know you are pregnant! How far along are you? πŸ˜€

😯 um… glad you had fun?
The baby’s going to seem downright boring πŸ˜†

πŸ˜€ I like hearing stories like that. I don’t work in anywhere “busy” like that so the most fun we have are along the lines of having giant robots donate money for us or screaming random stuff through the store when customers are there. Thanks for sharing πŸ™‚

Think how much fun it will be to recount when your kid is old enough to appreciate all of mommy’s cool work stories πŸ˜†

Holy cow. I would be freaking out and I would tell my boss that I need to go on leave. I do hope you take care of yourself and the baby.
