I get nosebleeds almost every day if it’s too dry. *hugs* Hopefully everything is okay!
October 2, 2007 at 11:48 pm #623033It went through the sheets but was stopped by the undersheet, which is super thick and moisture proof to protect the mattress. I’m thinking it may have been a nosebleed as well. She’s starting to pull up and it’s possible she fell and bonked her nose on the crib or possibly it’s just the dry air here…I’m still guessing…
October 3, 2007 at 12:03 am #623034If you think it might be the dry air, you could run a vaporizer in the room. I use one when my sinuses start acting up. Something to try before you go out and invest in a humidifier.
October 3, 2007 at 12:26 am #623035Hmmmmm…I may try that! Thanks! 🙂
October 3, 2007 at 1:02 am #623036I was a nose bleeder too. I got my nose catarizes or how ever it’s spelled when I was like 10 but almost EVERY DAY in the hot summer my nose would bleed. I hope everythign turns out for the best. I just think that if she hot her nose you would have heard her cry. Hopefully it will not happen again
October 3, 2007 at 1:49 am #623037Oh I hope everything is o.k. Thats scary
October 3, 2007 at 2:48 am #623038I didn’t read the whole post…but I do ENT and she probably had a nose bleed.
The weather has been changing, dry, cooler air.
You won’t necessarily see any physical evidence of a nose bleed. Just the blood spot on the sheets. Sometimes little babies and kids will unconscoiously put their fingers in their nose also…and this creates a bigger nose bleed.
Only rarely does the nose need to be cauterized..it hurts and it won’t stop the nose bleeds if the house is dry.
Don’t stress, if it is a nose bleed…a humidifier and some saline nasal spray 2 or 3 times a day should stop it.PM me if you want to talk…or my email is eschete344@bellsouth.net
Hope this helps…
PS…I am sorry a physician blew you off… Maybe you need to find a Nurse Practitioner. I have spent 5 years in ER, 8 years in Pediatrics and the last 2 years in ENT.
A Nurse Practitioner may be more likely to listen to you, comfort you and talk to you. I would like to think that I never send a mom that is scared or upset home without some type of resolution. My job is to find out the problem, treat it and reassure the parents.
Please email me if you need anything. I may not be able to see your child, but I might be able to help you find a provider who will take you seriously….
October 3, 2007 at 1:57 pm #623039I’ve found that nurses do seem to care more about the patients than the doctors do around here. Thankfully there are some really good doctors in lexington but that’s an hour from here. I’m pretty sure it was a nosebleed too. She’s been just fine ever since and my hubby told me he used to have nosebleeds as a kid, so unless she shows signs of it having been something else, I’m gonna figure that’s what it was. THanks so much for the support and help! 🙂
October 3, 2007 at 5:27 pm #623040I also would expect it to have been a nose-bleed. I don’t get them now, but when younger I got them whenever the air was too dry.
If your daughter slept through it, simply tossing and turning during sleep could have wiped off any dried blood on her face.
If it happens again, you might want to follow the suggestion of using a humidifier in the room. They are a pain in the butt to use (distilled water, filters, cleaning out and everything) but they can make a big difference to the comfort level as well as cut down on nosebleeds.
October 3, 2007 at 9:49 pm #623041over here on the Ice-Cube we are adviced to put a bowl of water on the… errrr…. what´s the word…. (10 min’s later) the thing that heats the room (can’t find my dictionary) oven? central heating?

You should hear me trying to remember common everyday words that just get stuck somewhere in my head. I can come up with all kinds of synonyms and 10-word phrases that don’t quite have the person I’m talking to understand what I am trying to say. I can spend ages, for example, trying to come up with the name of a common kitchen implement.
Not remembering “radiator”, when almost no-one has one anymore, is nothing. Not being able to come up with “Potato-peeler”; now THAT’s embarrassing.
October 3, 2007 at 11:29 pm #623045oh we have something in common, I have a “take-a-wayer” commonly known as a… errr…. a… urmph, spade to fish meat out of water, anyway it has holes in it
what !!! no one has radiators????
October 3, 2007 at 11:41 pm #623046I have radiators. Pain in the arse. I hate them. In most homes people have central heating at least. In appartments normally it’s rads.
