1/28: For those hunting for a lap later on–having something to trade will help. The GB baby unicorn from the January batch did make a difference.
————————————————
1/24 edit: now offering $400 + shipping for a mint dragon, and will cover the Paypal fees. I won’t be able to hang onto what’s budgeted for this much longer; already two major expenses hit in the last week, neither expected, and there goes $2K out the door. As much as I want this girl, I’m not going to be able to hunt for one for very long at this rate, so if you’re even considering this, please let me know.
Original post:
On the hunt for a Copper Patina/Teal Lap Dragon–as soon as possible from a reliable seller.
I wish I had the words to express how badly I want this girl. She’s starting to haunt my dreams. LOL I’m not a major collector and never will be, unfortunately. This is the ONLY dragon I want at this point; the others have character and beauty, of course, and with enough money & space for them, I’d love to have them all. It’s not going to happen. But this one is my special love, and I saw her far too late to get her through the store.
Payment can be made through Paypal and immediate. Now that Christmas is past and the bills are starting to come due for everyone, I thought I’d throw this out there, because if I can get what I want and help someone in the process (or help them fund their own dragon dreams!), so much the better.
(And if anyone from Windsong is reading this and going, “but we’ll have a fresh batch of those next month!” etc., please let me know. I can be patient if I have to…)
Thanks for considering!
–Victoria1/11 Edit: The less patina (turquoise) on this girl, the better; my male was patinated with a light hand and that’s what I definitely prefer. I have substantial feedback on ebay (100% positive since 2002, over 200 transactions as a buyer), and have completed a purchase with windstonefan on this forum that left both sides very happy.
I’ve got the budget set aside for this girl and a lovely new curio cabinet bought especially for her and her CP Male mate. PLEASE…talk to me first if you’re thinking about selling.December 31, 2011 at 11:06 pm #867750If it helps I don’t think the store is going to have them any time soon – until the pewter horn problem is solved, it’s unlikely they will have any restocks on the horned dragons.
But, nothing is impossible! 🙂

It *does* help to know that…though obviously that’s not the happiest/easiest answer in this case. Thanks for the heads up on the issue; it gives me a better idea of what I’m up against.
I wish I had something fabulous to trade as an additional bribe to get someone to part with one of these….

It might help if you said how much you were willing to pay. That will occasionally get people to part with things.
I don’t _think_ there was a ton of these made. I’ve only see one I think since I’ve been on the forum and that was about 5 or 6 months back.

As far as the number made–I suspect too it was a fairly small number, just by what I’ve dug up in the forum.
Unfortunately, I’m honestly not certain what one of these is worth, which makes it harder for me to say, “oh yes, I’d pay X!” Obviously it’s not the Labradorite Lap (which would have been WAY out of my price range, though Lordy, is that ever a gorgeous dragon). Neither is it common. I haven’t found one for sale in the forum records to value against, and I’m too green myself to know what an equivalent color (or perhaps type) would be to use as an appropriate price range.
I’d say given the rarity and gambling on them not being back “soon”, that makes it fairly certain to me that a mint or NIB is worth more than store retail. The question is, by how much?
Open to thoughts/ideas/suggestions (public or private).
January 1, 2012 at 3:29 am #867785I paid $250 for mine – it’s the only one I’ve ever seen for sale since they were in the store (I wasn’t on the forum then).

Thanks–$250-$300 is probably a fair target to start from at this point then, and I’d be totally fine with that. But I’m open to offers above that point if others don’t think that’s fair or have evidence of higher recent sales.
(and kiya, thanks again so much for your help on this. I really do appreciate it!)
January 1, 2012 at 5:59 am #867779Just keep watching the flea market. One is bound to show up sooner or later. I wish you luck.

January 12, 2012 at 12:01 am #868896Sigh…ten day bump. If there’s anything I can or should do to make this more likely to happen, let me know. I’m haunting ebay, of course, but there hasn’t been one of these as far back as history will let me search–October, I think–so I’m not feeling very hopeful at the moment!
And I’d like to get her before the money set aside for her gets caught up by other things. We all know how THAT goes.
January 25, 2012 at 3:41 am #870675The over 10 day bump. Still holding out hope and somehow standing up to other temptations…like GB unis… LOL

a GB Uni, if it turns out to be a good one, could be a big trade incentive to someone who might be holding out on their CP Lap. I love this dragon as well but I can wait to see if they come back into stock once the horn thing is figured out.
Just a thought 😉 that’s what seems to be coming up soon that people are making the biggest fuss over. If you go that route I *hope* you get a really nice Uni to use as incentive (Unless of course you fall in complete love. Which I think could be easy with them, lol)

LOL–I know, I’ve seriously considered that route. But the fear is exactly as you said: a) I’ll fall in love with the uni or b) I won’t get one that gets me to this end goal. And realistically, if I’m going to spend $100 give or take on that, well, why not just add it to the offered price? If someone took me up on it tonight, heck, THEY could use the extra towards the GB.
I still might take the chance, but oh Lordy, way too much money spent or committed this week. And with my luck, I’ll end up with an untradeable one.

I feel ya! The big thing to keep in mind is you would likely still have resale value if it isn’t one that’s greatly sought after by traders… – Most people having issues with “plain” ones that others don’t want to trade, is they’re trying to trade GB for GB. You’re thinking to trade GB for Dragon. Not even a retired dragon either, just a hard to come by one at the moment. That changes the whole game.
I’ve thought about going this route too, and if I didn’t fall in love with mine (I adore a lot of them that I’ve been able to see, but some of the colors aren’t to my taste), using it to trade for a CP dragon.. The big thing is they’re talking about limiting GB Babys to 1 per person.. and who would likely snatch the trade if you get one they really like, or would likely buy if you just straight resold, is someone who already bought their limit 1 quota, or missed the whole thing due to such high demand 😉 So that has a higher attraction than just the extra $$ – With a GB Uni, you’re reaching out past those who’re willing to sell their CP Laps, ‘n tempting those who don’t really wanna sell their CP Laps, but might want that GB Uni *more*
So the real risks are a) Falling in complete love with it (To which, whats the extreme harm in that? You’d then have a quite rare baby sitting on your shelf – They’re speculating some of these babys would sell on ebay for $300 – and you’d just try to restock what was used from your CP Lap funds.
b) actually gettin your hands on the GB baby, if you don’t get them due to demand, then no harm, no foul 🙂 – Which is why I lean more towards the idea of grabbing one myself, if I get the chance. It’s kinda a lot to think on, and a lot of odds, so it is a personal choice on if you want to take that risk… the way my odds work, I probably won’t even get a chance at one, heh. – At least this is my whole thought process on it XD
