WARNING: PREACHING COMING UP…
It seems that since Jennifer has stopped moderating some people have been happily disregarding the 10-day rule for bumping topics.
Obviously, I’m not a moderator and you can all tell me to mind my own business, but I would think that we should be reasonable enough to moderate ourselves, both because it’s a forum rule and out of respect to our fellow board members.
Or if you’ve been doing it out of ignorance, then I would suggest reading the section rules before anything else.
Okay, I’m done preaching now.

December 5, 2011 at 8:03 pm #864500also, i know it’s not a rule, but it’s horribly confusing to search the marketplace because rather than people just updating their old threads, they post completely new threads of stuff they want/are selling. So it’s rather impossible to find what is still available, what people are still looking for, etc. I asked once but was told that Windstone can’t delete the old threads, because they might need to be used as a reference?

Part of that might be because the Forum’s glitchy, and sometimes people can’t edit their old threads, particularly those from the time of the ‘old Forum.’
December 6, 2011 at 12:50 am #864553Would anybody care if we just took the older threads and moved them into hiding? I don’t think that anyone really needs to dig back through most of the posts. Or do they?
December 6, 2011 at 12:53 am #864554It’s fine with me, and it would make searching easier.
December 6, 2011 at 1:10 am #864556I think I’d be a little sad to know I wouldn’t have access to the old threads, but I guess it’s more about sentimental reasons for me than any actual need for them anymore.

There is a lot of useful information in them, but to be honest since the move to the new forum, searching them is abysmal at best. What if you just moved all of the old flea market posts into hiding? I don’t know how to do this except to go in and do it one by one for hours and hours, or I might have already done it myself…

My art: featherdust.comDecember 6, 2011 at 1:13 am #864560Can they all be moved to a new section, like an archive section on the main forum page, in case anyone needs them again? That way they’d be out of the way, but still accessible.
December 6, 2011 at 1:53 am #864571Those postings that run on forever and get added to over and over just drive me nuts. Changes and additions are at the beginning, some things are left in the middle, and new comments are at the end. And then new comments by the original poster are made at the end. I usually just get fed up with trying to figure it out and skip the whole thing.
Then there are the threads from eons ago that are brought up and appear to be new because the original posting date is almost impossible to see. OMG, Pink Laps are in the store! Whoops, that was from three years ago and someone just saw it, commented, and thus made it an active forum topic. AARGH!

I do agree that over a certain length, the selling threads become too confused. Maybe there should be an agreed upon number of posts beyond which we can start a new thread.
December 6, 2011 at 2:38 am #864580Originally I just meant the old Flea Market threads but now I can see that there are multiple issues that need to be addressed, and the run-on threads that are still current being the biggest offenders. Of course, if we just locked them up somewhere where they could be viewed the poster would simply have to start a new thread and I’m not sure there would be any harm in that. ???
If anyone has specific complaints about the search feature please email me so I can discuss them with the guys who are working on the site. We are now working on parts of the site that are most critical to the store but we do want to fix the rest of the bugs as well, and we don’t intend to leave it alone until we have run out of options in getting it to behave.

That would be awesome. As I said, it’s gotten to the point where it’s really impossible to search the FS forum.
On another forum I am basically when a thread is done, we mark in the title “done” or “please delete” or “graveyard” which is where the mods put old threads to save them, while at the same time keeping them out of the marketplace.
As for the store stuff, where susie puts her annoucements maybe that’s all they should be? Just announcements, and not discussions? And they only get bumped up if the items goes back into the store?

I like that idea, but I don’t know how much work it would be for Jennifer or whoever would have to do it. ??
I’m not sure how to go about it, but I would like to see postings that are SHORT and sweet. When the original items are sold, a new posting is made. Of course that would mean some people would list one item at a time to get maximum exposure; but with all the forum members we have, surely we can come up with something to improve the present system.
December 6, 2011 at 3:16 am #864591How about if we have listings with descriptions by the seller but no comments by viewers are allowed, and they are taken down at 60 days (or whatever number you want). The sellers can edit their post to add whatever they need to or to mark as sold, but let them field questions by email or PM. ??? People can always yak about stuff somewhere else on the forum. This would make the most sense to me.
