Okay, I have to ask…. What kind of bannister do you have that costs 10 grand to replace?
I’m guessing wooden….
you would really be surprised how much they cost to fix/repair or even install in the first place
some complete staircases can cost over $75,000
eventually I’ll get to be one of those people that gets to pick them all out too….hehe
December 20, 2007 at 4:57 am #648895Holy Peanut Butter!! Wow, that must look nice though.
December 20, 2007 at 5:01 am #648896yes….they sometimes make them the whole feature of the house….
I saw one once…that had to be custom made and driven in on a tractor trailer….
then it was put in the house by the manufacturer just so no one would steal trade secrets on how they made it and placed it….
but that was on a million dollar home….and I think it cost $250,000 just for the staircase…
that’s a whole house…. π―

Wow… I had no idea stair cases could cost that much! Let alone just one bannister. Crazy!

It’s solid wood and 55 feet long. When you come in the front door, you enter into a formal entry hall. The stairs go upstairs with one turn and a landing. The master bedroom is at the top of the stairs. To get to the other bedrooms, there is a gallery that circles the open to the ceiling entry hall. The home was built in the early 70’s and has had no updating, including the bannister which is loose and wobbly. When we have it repaired we have to bring it up to todays building codes, which means adding more balusters, capping off the end of the stairs and putting in a kick plate down the wall. I’ll try to get some pics up of it somewhere so you can see it.
