Several years ago Pipsxlch (not Pixidust) sent me some plants and today one of them is blooming

That’s such a neat flower… it looks as big as a hibiscus! And what a great gift!! 🙂

I think it’s clematis. Is it kind of vine-y?

Actually, they aren’t a type of orchid, but a member of the bean family. (Bauhinia variegata for the other bio nerds out there) They are a genus of smallish trees that grow in the tropics; a few can manage the subtropics- maybe through zone 9.

Isn’t vanilla a bean? They have nice flowers (though not these ones, so as not to confuse anyone)…
