Man, when you put it that way, black should be my choice too. Christmas is a long way off and bday has past. 😆

I was wondering if you’d ever considered doing the flion in another color? I know there aren’t many options with lions but perhaps a seal brown with purple wings (please!!) Just wondering… Also are the black griffin mom and chicks coming out in the next few months or will it be awhile? Thanks.

Yep, I have a White Flion with blue eyes sitting right here. He looks like a sheep. I had the casting dept find the old molds and cast a bunch to paint in white… then I realised that the mold had shrunk. This causes the face to be distorted slightly.. anyway I am not too happy with them, although probably nobody else would notice. I was going to re-do the sculpture a little to fix some other issues it has.. and then I got disrtracted with other projects…you know… the usual. I still have the old flion sculpture sitting on my work table.
Black griffins first? or tan? I’m afraid to do too many different griffins at once, everyone will get overstimulated and need to be put in a dark quiet room.

Sweet, more Flions. You can do the tan Griffins first, I need to save more money. hehe

Whoa…I jsut talked Dave into the Wolf Family of Griffs…I guess I better find a way to earn extra cash soon. I want themates for my 2 griffs too…and their kids…*Griffins sparkling in her eyes*
Ohhhh…I wanted to ask a while back and forgot with all the hubbub aobut the griffs…Is there going to be a flion family like the Griffs? Oh so nice…
Oh and will the tan and black griffs be a production or direct sale (Not including the males ofcourse) so that we current black and tan owners can get them outside of ebay? I can’t afford $500 for special paint jobs…But I’d find a way to afford the fems and chicks if I could put them on layaway… 😈

I used to watch Kimba all the time when I was a kid. I didn’t know it was the first anime cartoon over here, lol.

Me, too. I remember running home from kindergarden to watch it. I noticed alot of similarities when The Lion King came out but as far as nothing was ever proved that the writers got ideas from Kimba.
http://www.kimbawlion.com/rant2.htm If I was the judge in a case like this, I would come to a different conclusion! When I saw “The Lion King” for the first time I went on and on ( I do that) about how similar it was to a show I used to watch when I was a kid; about a white lion cub… (Wasn’t “Astro Boy” the first anime in the US?)

Osamu Tezuka’s Tetsuwan Atomu (Astro Boy in the US) came to the US in late 1963- early 1964 thanks to it catching the attention of NBC. It premiered in Japan on New Year’s Day, 1963.

Osamu Tezuka’s Janguru Taitei (Jungle Emperor), aka Kimba: the White Lion in the US, didn’t come to the US until 1966 (also because of NBC). It premiered in Japan in 1965.

However, Manga Calendar (just before Tetsuwan Atomu) was the first Japanese Animated TV series, while Tetsuwan Atomu was the first one to feature an ongoing plot.

Magic Boy (Shonen Sarutobi Sasuke) was the first Japanese animation to be released theatrically in North America (June 22, 1961 in the US, 1959 in Japan).

The Lion King is such a rip off of Kimba, even though I like both 😛 Matthew Broderick even said when he was signed onto the deal initially to voice Simba, that he was signing on to a remake of the Kimba movie. One of the original story boards for the movie showed a white lion cub too (among many other things). I guess nothing proceeded anywhere because things changed from the original idea (though it still kinda sneaky to me and still a lot of “similarities”). Nobody ever said it was the most honest company in the world *shrug*

Ok , since we got an anime thread going .. I ask this question all the time, but nobody knows what I am talking about..
When I was a kid.. (that would be 1954-until now) -perhaps around 1960? I saw a anime movie about a young reindeer. The story involved a tiger king and an evil jackal or wolf, for the bad guy character. The doctor was a hedgehog, I think.. anyway it was a beautiful, and very well animated movie; not choppy like anime usually is. Has anyone any idea what this movie was called or who made it? It must of been from a major studio.
I think the baby reindeer’s name was Kim, but I could be mixing it up with Kimba.

Thanks for all the information. I didn’t realize there was so much out there! And when you watch the Kimba episodes it is amazing how similar some of the plot lines are.

On the DVD case there is some info about it being the first Japanese anime here – might just be a selling point? It is very disappointing if Disney went ahead with the Lion King figuring their lawyers would just win the lawsuits *sigh* It’s getting so you can’t trust anyone. Walt would be turning over in his grave (if he was in a grave or is it a myth that he is frozen?)

I think Kimba may have been the first color anime series in the US.

Well, yes and no. Between him and Roy, Walt was the visionary. He had all these ideas and wanted them to happen and how he pictured them. Roy knew how do the financials and how to get things to happen. Walt was more of a ‘I want to see the results’. If you were an employee who didn’t agree with his vision or questioned it, you were seen as in the way. Kinda ruins the whole picture perfect image I had as a kid 😕

          Melody,

I am new to the forum, but I have been collecting Windstone for 20 years and the Black Grifin has been with me for a long time. He is one of my favorite pieces. He really, really needs a mamma and babies…it’s been a long, lonely time for him.

I did get a Pearl Momma and Chick. But he really would like to have a few girlfriends after all this time alone! My Flion (who I have had for as long as the Giffin) really would like a girlfriend too!!!

I know you are swamped…but they beg you to have pitty on them and let them have some girlfriends!

Sincerely, Kaya, Black Griffin and Flion!

Hmmm… I’m not sure. There are a lot of older anime that is out there or things that were western animated movies in the 1960s that were inspired by Japanese animation. I poked around some of the sites for the big studios in Japan, but nothing seems to match up. I’ll keep looking and ask around. Now I want to know! Anything else you can remember about it?

I was planning to do them as direct sale, because we can’t sell the matching males with them.
The Stores would want to have the whole family, I would think.
I have another black griffin color that we will be doing the whole family in (production) eventually. They are Black with sunset wings and red eyes.
The “flioness” is on my “to do” list. It is a very long list, however.

WHITE FLIONS!! YAY! There must be some way to make them look unsheep-like… Oh, if you ever play with resculpting the face any, maybe make the face a little longer? IMO the face has always look a little to pudgy, like it was squished or something.

Lion King rules. I don’t care how similar it is to Kimba–which, BTW, plays here every weekday at 4:30 on ch24!

                Mirrors, lol…
*Male griffin poking mirror with beak* *thinking* “something doesn’t feel right here…”

I remember a gorgeous dramatic scene a with a herd of reindeer fording a frozen river, the males breaking the ice to allow the females to follow. There was something about a plot to kill the young reindeer’s mother.. it was a heavy story, and actually a little too scary for me at the time. I am not sure now if it was a full length movie, or just a short, because I don’t remember that many scenes from it.
This animation was not really “Anime” style, it was animated like a Walt Disney movie, but I think it was dubbed.

you know what would also be snazzy? a black flion! with great black mane and that sunburnt black body that was spoken of in the flapcat thread. give him sharp yellow eyes and there you go!! wow! droool! if you’ve had black griffs, black flap cats, black pegasus, its just natural to make a black flion, just as logical if not more so than a white one (i’ll still take a white though, don’t get me wrong). so what do ya say, hmmmmmmmmmmmm?
