I know several members on the forum have small children, but I thought some of you might not have seen this news article. It’s kind of scary when you think about it.
Toy-maker Fisher-Price is recalling 83 types of toys _ including the popular Big Bird, Elmo, Dora and Diego characters _ because their paint contains excessive amounts of lead.

August 2, 2007 at 5:31 am #605025Thanks for that, I’m passing it on to my friends with kids!
August 2, 2007 at 6:40 am #605026OMG!!! Thank you for the post!
August 2, 2007 at 12:18 pm #605027My cousin is having a fit (she has three little ones and I think so far about five of the toys on the recall list). I wonder how that many toys managed to be produced with that paint and no one notice? Somebody at Fisher-Price is probably sweating right now…
August 2, 2007 at 4:03 pm #605028The affected toys were produced in China. I tell you it’s sad. If I hadn’t been online late last night, I might not even know. The story isn’t even linked on the front of MSN’s website anymore.
August 2, 2007 at 4:44 pm #605029😯 Thanks Peg!
When the Thomas trains were recalled I stupidly thought plastic toys were safe. Duh! Obviously they’re painted too. The Thomas trains were also painted in China…which makes me feel good about the few handmade toys we have, but omigosh do we have a lot of stuff made in China.August 2, 2007 at 5:26 pm #605030This makes me so mad. First with the pet food recall and then with the toys. I am starting to think it is on purpose. When I heard about this it made me think of all of the children that are going to go without that toy that they might cherish just because of someone’s mistake. And you can call and get a voucher for the same toy…psht…what makes them think that you would want to replace it with the same toy when that might have a problem with it as well. 🙄
Ok, Rant over. Thanks for posting this peg.
August 14, 2007 at 3:46 pm #605031Toy-making giant Mattel Inc. issued recalls Tuesday for about 9 million Chinese-made toys that contain magnets children can swallow or which could have lead paint.

August 14, 2007 at 6:20 pm #605034That is really sad. Have you guys heard about the toothpaste recall from china?
August 14, 2007 at 6:26 pm #605035No, wow…I wonder if this will stem a movement towards people buying american made….
August 14, 2007 at 6:29 pm #605036I was thinking that as well.
August 14, 2007 at 6:31 pm #605037This will make many parents and individuals wary about chinese products…when you boil it down they’ve become deadly….sad.
