So I am finally back to painting again! And I thought it’d be neat to do some Artist’s Edition dragons that are inspired by fish colors/patterns.
I think a rainbow trout would be interesting — and (maybe a little simplified) within reason to do. Dark olive-green above (metallic would look great — like wet-shiny fish!), white-silver below, with a pink stripe and black speckles! (Touches of salmony orange-pink on the fins could be used for…?) Brown eyes would be authentic, but green would look lovely, too, I bet! (A good picture: http://scpoliticaltruth.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/alaska_rainbow_trout.jpg)
It’s kind of complicated, but it would be very hard to do with airbrush and since the patterns vary widely from fish to fish, you could take liberties to make it a little easier: Black crappie (http://www.dec.ny.gov/images/fish_marine_images/blackcrappie.gif). Though when I compare them, the white crappie might be easier: http://www.lakeforkoutdoors.com/white%20crappie%20lake%20info.jpg. A fantasy version like this (http://www.sealifegifts.net/user_images/crap1.JPG) might make an even better dragon!
And then there’s this creature, Apistogramma viejita — http://guitarfish.org/images/posts/apisto_viejita_2_12_29_2006.jpg.
I can hardly wait to see what you come up with!
