The winning bidder should definitely receive the exact item pictured in the listing, unless the seller specifically states otherwise.
September 18, 2007 at 3:49 pm #617754That is really weird… 😕 But I do love that cicada! What a neat find, Pam. I really hope that you get what you paid for and the seller won’t be a dork about it. And that you get it in time for the special occasion it was meant for, obviously…

I agree, purplecat…the feedback thing is odd. I don’t see how not receiving feedback will keep things private, since you can search by bidder anyway. The feedback thing is that he is making an excuse to not leave feedback for you till you have left it for him, That way if you leave a neg he can retaliate with a neg. It has nothing whatsoever to do with privacy. That is a very underhanded thing to do. He is a crummy seller. 😕
September 18, 2007 at 4:30 pm #617756Good point, Ski….
September 18, 2007 at 7:12 pm #617757Im sorry for your trials here. I do hope something can be done and you receive appropriate communication, cooperation and compensation.
Back in the day when I was a big eBay buyer, I remember when sellers wouldnt leave me feedback even though I would pay SO fast (sitting on auction till it closed so I wouldnt get sniped) or choose BIN rather than get into bidding just to save $2 or so, some seller’s would still not leave me feedback until I received the item and left them feedback first.
From my experience, it was always those sellers who had something to fear in what they auctioned. Such as a DVD that was supposedly region free or supposed to work on USA players (and the seller was from OH!) I was told I was getting the original DVD. Nope, it was a copy made on his computer and didnt play on ANY machine, anywhere. He denied, spun it and made me look bad. I was new to eBay at that time and had thought I was supposed to leave FB as soon as I finished paying (not waiting till I got item). So, since the transaction went well, I left him +FB I couldbt retract. But after dragging him (and 50+ other buyers that were in the same situation with me with this seller) through eBay trials and IFCC stuff, I followed up my +FB with warnings. He however, never left me ANY feedback. Why? Cause regardless of what he’d leave for me, he knows I could take the opportunity to slam him in my own FB response.
If this seller is waiting till you FB for him and youve paid him already, YOUR part is done and he should be leaving FB for you immediately upon your payment. If not, he’s shady, IMO. Good luck and keep us updated.
September 18, 2007 at 8:01 pm #617758I also agree that the part about feedback is definitely off the chart. I think after reading that I would be very leary about buying anything from him. I do hope you either get your money back or the correct cicada.
September 19, 2007 at 6:27 pm #617759Well, he never replied to my second email begging for that particular cicada.. I’ll go ahead and ship the broken one back, along with a letter about how I think he is obligated to send me what I paid for since the listing never said otherwise, but I have an odd feeling that he is just going to refund my money and not send me another at all.. I don’t think I would be as upset if I was sent one that at least APPEARED to be the same as the one in my listing, but the piece he sent, IMO, was very different, not “slightly different” as the seller put it. The one I want has a carved black leaf under it. The others didn’t. The one I was sent didn’t. He could at least send me one with a black leaf under it, even if it isn’t the exact same one as pictureed in the listing… 😕
The other thing that bugs me ever so slightly is that his listing says he ships within 24-48 hours of receiving payment. I paid on the 11th but the cicada wasn’t shipped until the 15th.
September 19, 2007 at 6:31 pm #617760He sounds shifty. I hope you dont run out of steam and are able to keep on top of this. Lots of times ppl done wrong by sellers, dont get retroaction or compensation because the seller is so shady, it runs a normal person ragged and they run out of stream to pursue. I hope this doesnt happen to you and that you either get the proper cicada or full refund without fuss.
September 19, 2007 at 10:05 pm #617761That really bites and I hope you get it resolved. You might want to throw in that this is for a gift and please send me the correct one by such and such a date. Explain to him that you wanted the one with the leaf and the one you received didn’t have one.
You know it is really interesting on how people react to things. I bought a Black Griffin with a BIN. I told her in the paypal and ebay email to contact me before shipping this because I wanted to make sure that it was packaged correctly. Well she did contact me and since I didn’t contact her over the weekend she shipped the griffin without my instructions. She said that she packaged it with the expensive bubble wrap, put it in the box and that the griffin should be fine. Needless to say this griffin wasn’t in mint condition and it did have flea bites, but I didn’t care about that. Easy enough to fix. When I received it there were actual chips in it. A couple tips of the feathers were missing and I compared it to the picture of the auction and it wasn’t like that before she sent it. So instead of contacting her and going the rounds I just left positive feedback but I also pointed out that I received extra chips. She contacted me and asked if it was necessary to leave any negative comment in the feedback because it was a good deal and it was packaged well. I responded and told her that I did leave her a positive feedback and I was simply stating that I received unexpectant chips and that I have bought griffins that were in Mint condition for the price I bought this griffin for. Well she rights back and she said that maybe she should leave a negative feedback and that would take the chip off my shoulder and to get over myself. I wrote her back and said I am sorry you feel this way. This just pissed me off and I have been thinking that I should make a comment under my feedback stating that she is a diffcult seller or person.
By the way…I don’t want to take over your thread Pam, I just wanted to get it off my chest. 😳
